De mi apellido real ‘Shimogori’. ‘simo’ es un apodo que me han puesto desde niño.
From real surname ‘Shimogori’. ‘simo’ is a nickname I have been called since childhood.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
De pequeño, a mi hermano se le daba muy bien dibujar. Yo imitaba a mi hermano y hacía dibujos. Mi comienzo como artista fue la formación del dúo de artistas WHOLE9.
As a child, my brother was very good at drawing. I used to imitate my brother and draw pictures. My beginning as an artist was the formation of the artist duo WHOLE9.
¿Cuál es tu estilo?
What is your style?
Pinto de forma abstracta que se inspira en la naturaleza y escenas cotidianas. Y recientemente, pinto combinaciones de piedras que he amado y coleccionado desde la infancia. Generalmente tengo estos dos estilos, y pinto lo que me apetece pintar en cada momento, sin ponerme demasiadas reglas. Y pinto solo o en equipo (WHOLE9 y KAOMANGAI). Disfruto yendo y viniendo de un canal a otro.
I paint abstractly that Inspired by nature and everyday scenes. And recently, I paint combinations of stones that I have loved and collected since childhood. I generally have these two styles, and I paint what I want to paint at the time, without setting too many rules. And I paint alone or in a team (WHOLE9 and KAOMANGAI). I enjoy going back and forth between the various channels.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Formé WHOLE9 en 2007 y dibujaba en la azotea de la universidad a la que asistía, llevando bolígrafos y pulverizadores para dibujar en grandes hojas de papel. Por aquel entonces, no tenía nada que quisiera expresar, así que me limitaba a hacer grandes garabatos. Mirándolo ahora, creo que era tan malo que no podía enseñárselo a nadie, pero me divertía hacer dibujos grandes. Sigue siendo muy divertido pintar a lo grande.
I formed WHOLE9 in 2007 and drew on the rooftop of the university I attended, bringing pens and sprayers to draw on large sheets of paper. At the time, I didn’t have anything I wanted to express, so I was just making big doodles. Looking back on it now, I think it was so bad that I couldn’t show it to anyone, but it was just fun to draw big pictures. It is still really fun to paint big.
