Where does your pseudonym come from?
El nombre «Dragon76» procede de las múltiples conexiones que he tenido con el número 76. Cuando tenía 18 años y empecé a vivir solo, la dirección de mi casa incluía el número 76. También nací en el 1976, y no dejaba de encontrarme con este número de diversas maneras. Como nací en el Año del Dragón, lo combiné con el 76 para crear mi nombre artístico. Además, soy un gran fan de Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan y Dragon Ball desde la infancia, lo que también influyó en mi elección.
The name “Dragon76” comes from multiple connections I had with the number 76. When I was 18 and started living on my own, my address included the number 76. I was also born in 1976, and I kept encountering this number in various ways. Since I was born in the Year of the Dragon, I combined it with 76 to create my artist name. Additionally, I have been a huge fan of Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Dragon Ball since childhood, which also influenced my choice.

What motivated you to start painting?
Desde mi adolescencia me ha encantado dibujar, muy influenciado por el manga y el anime. A menudo copiaba a mis personajes favoritos y creaba mis propios originales. También me fascinaban las películas, compraba revistas de cine todos los meses y dibujaba las imágenes que me llamaban la atención. Más tarde, me inspiró profundamente la cultura neoyorquina, no sólo en el arte, sino también en la música y la moda. Esta exposición me llevó a explorar el arte pop y el arte callejero, que tuvieron un gran impacto en mi dirección artística.
Since my teenage years, I have loved drawing, heavily influenced by manga and anime. I often copied my favorite characters and created my own original ones. I was also fascinated by movies, buying film magazines every month and sketching visuals that caught my eye. Later, I was deeply inspired by New York’s culture, not just in art but also in music and fashion. This exposure led me to explore pop art and street art, which had a major impact on my artistic direction.

How would you describe your style?
Mi estilo tiene sus raíces en la animación y el manga japoneses, combinados con técnicas de arte callejero. Mezclo motivos culturales tradicionales con elementos ciberpunk y futuristas, creando un lenguaje visual en el que coexisten la tecnología y la naturaleza. Mi objetivo es fusionar distintas influencias culturales e históricas para crear algo totalmente nuevo.
My style is rooted in Japanese animation and manga, combined with street art techniques. I blend traditional cultural motifs with cyberpunk and futuristic elements, creating a visual language where technology and nature coexist. My goal is to fuse different cultural and historical influences to create something entirely new.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember your first piece?
Es difícil decir qué obra fue realmente la primera, pero recuerdo la primera vez que pinté sobre lienzo: fue hace 30 años, cuando tenía 18 años. Por aquel entonces, las herramientas digitales e Internet no estaban tan desarrolladas como ahora, así que tenía que esbozarlo todo con un lápiz, haciendo innumerables revisiones. Tardaba más de un mes en terminar un solo cuadro.
Mirando ahora esa obra, puedo ver la energía juvenil y la pasión que tenía entonces. Mi estilo ha cambiado mucho desde entonces, pero ese cuadro sigue ocupando un lugar especial en mi corazón. Hoy utilizo herramientas como el iPad y Photoshop, que me permiten planificar los colores y las composiciones de antemano, lo que agiliza mucho el proceso. Sin embargo, las luchas y los retos a los que me enfrenté en mi adolescencia me han convertido en el artista que soy hoy.
It’s difficult to say which piece was truly my first, but I remember the first time I painted on canvas—it was 30 years ago when I was 18. Back then, digital tools and the internet were not as developed as they are today, so I had to sketch everything with a pencil, making countless revisions. It took me over a month to complete a single painting.
Looking at that piece now, I can see the youthful energy and passion I had at the time. My style has changed significantly since then, but that painting still holds a special place in my heart. Today, I use tools like iPad and Photoshop, which allow me to plan colors and compositions in advance, making the process much faster. However, the struggles and challenges I faced in my teenage years have shaped me into the artist I am today.

Actualmente resido en Nueva York y trabajo activamente entre Estados Unidos y mi país natal, Japón. En el futuro, me encantaría ampliar mis actividades también en Europa. Espero que esta entrevista me abra nuevas oportunidades y contactos.
