¿De dónde viene tu apodo?

Where does your pseudonym come from?

Conseguí mi nombre por ensayo y error. Hace unos 18 años empecé a escribir Zen después de probar otras palabras. Me gustaba más que cualquier otra cosa que hubiera escrito antes y poco a poco, con los años, empecé a añadirle más letras para que tuviera más impacto.

I got my name through trial and error. About 18 years ago I started writing Zen after trying out a few other words. I liked it more than anything I had written before and then slowly over the years I started adding more letters to it just to make it more impactful.

 

 

 

 

¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?

What motivated you to get started painting?

Tenía un amigo que hacía firmas y me pareció muy guay. Recuerdo que pensé que era lo más emocionante del mundo, acabamos viendo un par de vídeos de bombardeo de la vieja escuela y salimos a bombardear. Acabaron arrestándome esa misma noche y, aunque me fue fatal, ¡me enganché al instante!.

Con el tiempo empecé a pintar piezas, a explorar la ciudad para pintar ilegalmente y a trasegar pintura. Fue entonces cuando realmente despegó, me sentí inmediatamente adicto al subidón. Cuando empecé a desarrollarme más como escritor, conocí a otros escritores que me tomaron bajo su ala y me enseñaron realmente a elevar mi estilo.

I had a friend who was tagging and it seemed really cool. I remember thinking it was the most exciting thing ever, we ended up watching a couple old school bombing videos and went out bombing. I ended up getting arrested that same night and even though it went terribly, I was instantly hooked!

I eventually started painting pieces, exploring the city to paint illegally and racking paint. That’s when it really took off, I was immediately addicted to the rush. As I started getting more developed as a writer, I met other writers who took me under their wing and really showed me how to elevate my style.

 

 

 

 

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del graffiti y lo que menos?

What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?

Me encanta explorar, pintar trenes y hacer nuevos amigos. Odio el drama, los egos y la actitud irrespetuosa que a veces parece venir con el territorio.

I love exploring, painting trains and making new friends. I hate the drama, egos and the disrespectful attitude that seems to come with the territory sometimes.

Siempre he tenido debilidad por las revistas, webs, libros , creo que ver tu graffiti impreso junto al de otros es siempre una sensación increíble.

I’ve always had a soft spot for magazines, books, websites. I think seeing your graffiti printed alongside other peoples is always an amazing feeling.

 

 

 

 

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza? 

Do you remember the first piece?

Recuerdo mi primera pieza, fue todo con krylon y no tenía ni idea de qué boquillas utilizar. Tardé 4 horas en pintarla y la odié totalmente, sinceramente tardé unos 5 años en empezar a gustarme lo que pintaba e incluso entonces sabía que me quedaba un largo camino por recorrer. Ahora, todavía tengo un largo camino por recorrer, es a la vez una bendición y una maldición, pero rara vez estoy satisfecho con lo que pinto cuando está hecho.

I remember my first piece, it was all with racked krylon and I had no idea what caps did what. It took me 4 hours to paint and I absolutely hated it, it honestly took me about 5 years of painting before I started to like what I was painting and even then I still knew I had a super long way to go. Now, I still have a long way to go, it’s both a blessing and a curse but i’m rarely satisfied with what I paint when it’s done.
