¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Where does your pseudonym come from?
Elegí el nombre basándome en las letras con las que me sentía más cómodo trabajando en ese orden. También quería un nombre parecido a los de las personas que admiraba y respetaba. Además, encajaba con mi personalidad cuando era más joven.
I chose the name based on the letters I felt most comfortable working with in that order. I also wanted a name close to those I admired and respected. It also fit my personality when I was younger.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
Me inspiré en el graffiti a una edad temprana, cuando lo vi en lugares llamativos. Increíbles producciones en autopistas, pistas de balonmano, metros, etc. Me atrajo mucho el graffiti cuando vi el documental «Style Wars» de Henry Chalfant. Pero no empecé a escribir por eso, en realidad fue por la presión de mis amigos, que me animaron a crear un nombre y ser su compañero de fechorías. Jaja.
I was inspired by graffiti at a young age when I saw it in bold spots. Amazing productions on highways, handball courts, subways, etc. I was really drawn into graffiti when I saw the “Style Wars” documentary by Henry Chalfant. But I didn’t start writing because of that, I was actually peer pressured by my friend to create a name and be his partner in crime. Haha.
¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del graffiti y lo que menos?
What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?
Me encanta el arte en general. Lo que me gusta del graffiti es la libertad para expresarte, levantarte y mostrar tus habilidades. También me encanta pasear y verlo. El graffiti también tiene la capacidad de unir a personas de muchos ámbitos diferentes. He conocido a gente realmente increíble y he aprendido muchas cosas de ellos. Artísticamente, culturalmente, históricamente, etc. Lo que no me gusta del graffiti es la política. También es un deporte impulsado por el ego que puede atraer a personas realmente negativas a tu vida.
I love art in general. Things I love about graffiti is the freedom to express yourself, get up, and showcase your skills. I also love roaming around. Graffiti also has the ability to unite people from many walks of life. I’ve met some really amazing people and learned many things from them. Artistically, culturally, history, and so on. Somethings I don’t like about graffiti is the politics. It is also an ego driven sport which can bring real negative people around in your life.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Sí. Recuerdo mi primera obra. La hice en 1986. En Flushing, Nueva York. En las vías del ferrocarril de Long Island (LIRR). La hice durante el descanso para comer cuando estaba en el colegio con mi compañero Soze. La rellené con una lata barata de plata y la contorneé con Krylon ultra negro mate. La hice sobre cemento sin tratar, por lo que era imposible contornear el plata. Era una obra sencilla, pero quedó mal debido a la calidad de la pintura. Desde entonces he mejorado mucho en el arte del graffiti y mi estilo ha evolucionado mucho. Sin duda, pasé por una serie de estilos antes de decidirme por el que tengo ahora.
Yes. I do remember my first piece. It was done in 1986. Flushing, NY. On the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) tracks. I did it during lunch break when I was at school with my classmate Soze. It was filled in with a cheap can of chrome and outlined with Krylon ultra flat black. Did it on raw cement so the chrome was impossible to outline. It was a simple piece but it came out busted because of the paint quality. I’ve gotten much better at piecing since then, and my style has definitely evolved. I definitely went through a series of styles before I settled with what I have going on now.

Llevo escribiendo desde hace 41 años y no tengo intención de dejarlo pronto. Pero también practico otras formas de arte para romper con la monotonía de hacer siempre lo mismo, como el arte callejero, el pegado de carteles, el arte concreto y los tags. También quiero dar las gracias a todos los que me han mostrado su cariño y apoyo. ¡Gracias! Y gracias a ti por la entrevista. Si puedo ayudaros en algo, lo haré. ¡Gracias de nuevo!
Been writing for 41 years now, have no intentions of stopping anytime soon. But I do other forms of art to break up the monotony of doing the same thing with street art, wheat pasting, concrete art, and monikers.
