I started writing my nickname in 2004, initially using four letters in my early years of painting: “Spok.” I’d love to say it was simply due to the influence of the science fiction series Star Trek: The Original Series, but I actually chose those letters because I found them very dynamic and interesting, simply to develop my style. Later, I added the letter E to my nickname because I gradually became deeply interested in style writing and wildstyle, and I wanted to see my pieces become increasingly larger, longer, and more elaborate.

Empecé a escribir mi apodo desde el año 2004 bajo 4 letras inicialmente en mis primeros años pintando: “Spok”. Me encantaría decir que por mera influencia de la serie de ciencia ficción Star Trek:la serie original pero realmente escogí esas letras porque me resultaron muy dinámicas e interesantes simplemente para desarrollar mi estilo. Posterior agregué a mi apodo la letra E porque progresivamente me fuí interesando profundamente en el stylewriting y el wildstyle, y quería ver mis piezas cada vez más grandes, largas y trabajadas..

¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?

What motivated you to get started painting?

Iniciando a muy temprana edad a pintar graffiti me motivó mayormente la cultura del skateboarding, todo empezó por la patineta. A principios de los 2000 muy involucrado e inmerso en el mundo del skateboarding influenciado por mis hermanos mayores que me jalaban a todo lado. Como resultado, la mayoría de los lugares en los que me encontraba convergieron con el auge del movimiento de varias subculturas como la del skateboarding, o graffiti a nivel Centroamericano y el Hip-Hop, lo cual me intrigó y atrapó al instante.

Starting to paint graffiti at a very young age, I was mostly motivated by skateboarding culture; it all began with skateboarding. In the early 2000s, I was very involved and immersed in the world of skateboarding, influenced by my older brothers who dragged me everywhere. As a result, most of the places I frequented were experiencing the rise of various subcultures, such as skateboarding, graffiti in Central America, and hip-hop, which intrigued and captivated me instantly.

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del graffiti y lo que menos?

What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?

Creo que lo que más amo del graffiti al día de hoy es esa misma emoción de entusiasmo y adrenalina que experimenté desde el primer día que utilicé un aerosol a mis 10 años de edad. Para un niño eso nunca se olvida. La gratificación inmediata que me genera pintar diferentes estilos, formatos, por medio del graffiti he tenidola oportunidad de viajar y pintar en diversas partes del mundo que jamás creí visitar con personas con las que nunca hubiera imaginado llegar a conocer. Se despertó desde entonces una gran pasión que no mengua sino que se fortalece cada vez más a través de los años. Considero que lo que menos me gusta del graffiti es el gran impacto negativo en el medio ambiente pero sobre todo en la salud física y financiera de cada pintor y escritor, pues no es barato pintar graffiti y el planeta tampoco lo agradece, mucho menos nuestra capa de Ozono en materia ambiental ni nuestro cuerpo por más equipo de protección siempre al pintar graffiti expones tu propia salud.

I think what I love most about graffiti today is that same thrill of excitement and adrenaline that I experienced from the first day I used a spray can at 10 years old. A kid never forgets that. The immediate gratification I get from painting different styles and formats through graffiti has given me the opportunity to travel and paint in diverse parts of the world I never thought I’d visit, with people I never imagined I’d meet. A great passion was awakened then, one that doesn’t diminish but rather grows stronger with each passing year. What I like least about graffiti is its significant negative impact on the environment, but especially on the physical and financial health of each painter and writer. Painting graffiti isn’t cheap, and the planet doesn’t appreciate it, much less our ozone layer. And no matter how much protective gear we use, when painting graffiti, you’re always putting your health at risk.

Creo que es quizá la mejor plataforma digital en toda la internet actualmente en materia de graffiti y arte urbano a nivel mundial ya que está actualizada y en constante crecimiento y mantenimiento. Entonces me agrada verla como una gran enciclopedia y también te permite conectar con muchos otros escritores y artistas generando exposición y sobre todo aportando a la comunidad y a las próximas generaciones. Me hubiera encantado poder realizar la entrevista hace años pero todo tiene su tiempo perfecto.

I think it’s perhaps the best digital platform on the entire internet right now for graffiti and urban art worldwide, since it’s constantly updated, growing, and being maintained. So I like to see it as a great encyclopedia, and it also allows you to connect with many other writers and artists, generating exposure and, above all, contributing to the community and future generations. I would have loved to have done the interview years ago, but everything has its perfect time.

Claro, en ese tiempo tenía 12 años de edad, era el año 2004, utilicé dos botes de pintura de ferreteria negro mate marca Acuario. Pinté una pieza ilegal, en las paredes traseras del cementerio de mi barrio, al sur de la capital de mi país. Era muy ignorante de mi propia ignorancia, fue el inicio de este gran viaje al que le denomino “STYLE JOURNEY” desde entonces mis motivaciones con respecto al graffiti han cambiado, mi estilo se mantiene en constante evolución siempre.

Of course, I was 12 years old at the time, it was 2004. I used two cans of Aquarius brand matte black hardware store paint. I painted an illegal piece on the back walls of the cemetery in my neighborhood, south of my country’s capital. I was very ignorant of my own ignorance. It was the beginning of this great journey that I call «STYLE JOURNEY.» Since then, my motivations regarding graffiti have changed, and my style is constantly evolving.
