¿De dónde viene tu apodo?

Where does your pseudonym come from?

Cuando era un niño crecí en una familia muy interesada en el soul, la música disco y el hip-hop, a los 12 años me obsesioné con el nuevo álbum de Jay-Z, «Watch the Throne». Pero ahora tengo casi 25 años y siempre ha sido THRONE nada más, lo he hecho funcionar durante los últimos 10 años y nunca lo cambiaría.

Me gustan mucho las letras.
Recientemente he empezado a mezclar cosas con mi nombre y he empezado a poner FRONE, es más una broma de West Yorkshire que es el condado de donde soy, se considera una cosa de acento. así que sólo lo entenderás realmente si eres de Yorkshire jaja.

As a young child growing up with a family highly interested in soul, disco and hip-hop, at the age of 12 i became obsessed with jay-z’s new album ‘watch the throne’ looking back now after talking about it, it now makes me cringe and laugh a bit haha. But now I’m almost 25 and it’s always been THRONE nothing else, I made it work for the last 10 years and would never change it.

I love the letters so much.
I have recently started to mix things up with my name and started putting up FRONE, it’s more of a west yorkshire joke which is the county where i’m from, it’s considered an accent thing. so you will only really understand it if you’re from yorkshire haha.

¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?

What motivated you to get started painting?

Al igual que el hip-hop, también crecí rodeado de graffitis. Mi hermano mayor se codeaba en esta cultura desde los primeros años de la década del 2000. de niño era súper mala jaja a duras penas solía sentarme a verle dibujar o verle leer una revista de Graphotism y estar constantemente preguntando ‘qué es eso o quién es eso’. tenía una habitación en el ático absolutamente llena de todo lo que tenía que ver con el graffiti y el hip-hop, realmente se notaba la obsesión que todos tenemos con el graffiti hoy en día… una colección completa de DJ, una colección completa de Graphotism, y una pared trasera con las letras de la película ‘wild style’ pintadas en ella. viendo todo esto yo también me obsesioné. hasta tal vez los 12/13 años me encontraba siempre buscando graffitis, dibujando y teniéndolos constantemente en mi mente. jaja pero no tanto como ahora. a medida que pasaban los años y salía a pintar paredes cada fin de semana… Encontré mi estilo, estaba constantemente viendo películas de graffiti y ediciones en youtube, fui introducida a crews, conocí a montones de escritores de todo el mundo y tener una crew propia, era como mi hermano, me dejaba notar por montana cans e ironlak y publicada de manera internacional como una mujer más que pintaba, mi crew y todos los grandes escritores que he conocido y tenido un gran tiempo con que motivan ahora. Siento que tienes que mantenerte motivado para disfrutar del graffiti, nunca dejas de aprender… nunca.

Like hip-hop, I grew up around graffiti also. My older brother had been getting up since the very early 2000s. as a kid i was super annoying haha at roughly i used to sit watching him sketch or see him reading a Graphotism magazine and be constantly asking ‘whats that or whos that’. he had an attic bedroom absolutely filled with everything to do with graffiti and hip-hop, you really could tell the obsession that we all have with graffiti today…a full DJ set up, full collection of graphotism, and a back wall with the film ‘wild style’ letters painted on it. seeing all this i also became obsessed. leading up to maybe the ages 12/13 i found myself always looking out for graffiti, sketching and having it constantly on my mind. haha but not as much as it is now. as the years went on and i was out painting walls every weekend…i found my style, was constantly watching graffiti movies and edits on youtube, was introduced to crews, met loads of writers from around the world and having a crew of my own, it was my brother, being noticed by montana cans and ironlak and posted fro international women’s day and sites, my crew and all the great writers i have met and had great time with that motivate now. I feel like you have to keep yourself motivated to enjoy graffiti, you never stop learning…ever.

¿Cuál es tu estilo? 

What is your style?

jaja mi estilo confunde a todo el mundo creo, mi compañero PAKOE siempre dice, nunca he visto un estilo como el tuyo antes, dice que mis letras hacen una gran letra, nunca ha visto a nadie atar las letras tan juntas antes. He tenido escritores que comentan en mis posts de instagram confundidos preguntando dónde está una letra o no pueden creer que cierta letra esté tan atada pero escondida jaja, pero para mí amo el euro graffiti, amo hacer que mis letras bailen unas con otras. Me encanta la estética del eurograffiti. Me encanta ir a París, Ámsterdam y España y ver todos los diferentes estilos europeos en persona… esa es otra gran motivación.

haha my style confuses everybody i think, my partner PAKOE always says, i’ve never seen a style like yours before, he says my letters make one big letter, he’s never seen anybody tie letters so tight together before. I’ve had writers comment on my instagram posts confused asking where a letter is or they cant believe a certain letter is so tied in but hidden haha, but for me i love euro graffiti, i love making my letters dance into one another. I love the aesthetics of euro graffiti. I love going to Paris, Amsterdam and Spain and seeing all the different euro styles in person…that is another great motivation.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza? 

Do you remember the first piece?

Recuerdo muy bien mi primera pieza jaja, fue en un conocido muro legal en Leeds, octubre de 2011, y llovió todo el día (típico clima inglés jaja). Estaba muy emocionada.
Fuera de la pieza estaba mi hermano y un amigo que tenía que era un escritor que su tag era MOST.
Pinté una pieza de letras rectas, era un relleno sólido azul con una burbuja amarilla, y un estilo de mano THRONE muy malo al lado derecho jajaja.

Pero en ese momento no me importó porque me encantó que después de muchos bocetos por fin saliera a pintar.
Esto fue en la época donde no existía instagram, los escritores usaban flickr para publicar sus piezas, yo no podía esperar a llegar a casa y subir mi primera pieza jaja.
Poco después apareció instagram y los escritores usaban cada vez menos flickr, mirando hacia atrás a mis primeras piezas comparadas con las de ahora, la diferencia de estilo es una locura, pero como la mayoría de los escritores cuando estás pintando cada semana no notas el cambio hasta que estudias tus fotos.

Ahora tengo muchos más conocimientos.
Cuando pinto ahora, me tomo mi tiempo, me alejo y puedo averiguar lo que tengo que hacer para arreglar algo que no se ve bien.

I remember my first piece very well haha, it was at a well known legal wall in Leeds, october 2011, and it rained all day (typical English weather haha). I was so excited.
Out piecing was my brother and a friend that I had that was a writer MOST.
I painted a straight letter peiece, it was a blue solid fill with a yellow bubble, and a very bad THRONE handstyle to the right side hahaha.

But at the time I didn’t care because I loved that after many sketches I was finally out painting.
This was at the time where instagram didn’t exist, writers would use flickr to post their pieces, i couldn’t wait to get home and upload my first piece haha.
Soon after instagram came about and writers used flickr less and less, looking back at my early peices compared to now, the difference in style is crazy, but like most writers when you are painting every week you don’t notice the change until you study your pictures.

I have so much more knowledge now.
When I paint now, I take my time, I stand back and can figure out what I need to do to fix something that does not look right.

What is your crew?

Mi primera crew fue UKS/UKNOWS… luego en 2012 mi hermano comenzó su colectivo de graffiti y marca de ropa ‘heavy goods’ que realmente ha despegado. En 2014 creó una crew de escritores para formar parte de su colectivo/crew THG (team heavy goods) del que también formo parte. Hace poco, durante la pandemia de covirus, fue el momento de mi vida en el que realmente empecé a ponerme en serio con el graffiti y con todo el tiempo libre del trabajo me sentí más motivada. Mi compañero PAKOE decidió que debíamos crear nuestro propio equipo FNK (Friday night kids). La mayoría de nuestros amigos son escritores, así que tenía sentido que todos tuviéramos también nuestro propio equipo de escritores. Nos levantamos casi todos los fines de semana y nos lo pasamos muy bien, con buenas producciones y siempre con mucha cerveza jaja.

My first crew was UKS/UKNOWS…then in 2012 my brother started up his graffiti collective and clothing brand ‘heavy goods’ which has really taken off. In 2014 he started a team for writers to be a part of his collective/crew THG (team heavy goods) which I am also a part of. Just recently, during the covid pandemic, was the time in my life where I really started to get serious with graffiti and with all the time off work I was motivated the most. My partner PAKOE decided we should start our own crew FNK (Friday night kids)..most of our friends are writers so it just made sense for us all to have our own team of writers too. We get up almost every weekend and have the best times, good spraycations and always loads of beer haha.

Han sido 10 años fantásticos de pintura. He conocido a mucha gente estupenda, he perdido a mucha gente estupenda, he pintado muchas ciudades estupendas por todo el mundo y pienso seguir pintando más y más con mis chicos que lo petan cada día: PAKOE, BLUR, SKITZ, WAGS, PEGS, SANE.
Gracias a mis dos mayores inspiraciones, mis hermanos AMONE & BOGUS por hacerme pintar cada fin de semana a pesar de todo jaja. y siempre en nuestra memoria, FISH, UKS.

It has been a great 10 years of painting. I have met so many great people, lost great people, painted so many great cities around the world and plan on painting more and more with my boys who kill it everyday: PAKOE, BLUR, SKITZ, WAGS, PEGS, SANE.
