Why is your tag Roo?
Es un apodo del colegio, una abreviación de mi primer nombre.
It’s a nickname I got at School, an altered abbreviation of my first name.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a ser una artista?
What motivated you to get started being an artist?
No me clasificaría a mí misma como escritora de graffiti, ya que no pinto letras o de forma ilegal. ¡Pero me gusta pintar con escritores de graffiti! Soy una Artista que hace muñecos, por lo que creo que mi trabajo a menudo se adapta muy bien a las colaboraciones y producciones.
Volviendo a la pregunta, mi hermano estaba realmente interesado en el graffiti a una edad temprana (y todavía lo esta), así que inicialmente me inspiré en él. Mi primer recuerdo de pintar letras fue un dibujo de su nombre en la puerta de su habitación, usando 2 ángulos para hacer la letra M.
También solíamos comprar Graphotism, antes de que realmente tuviéramos Internet, así que me encantaba mirar esa revista. El lugar en la que crecimos no tenía mucho graffiti, así que desafortunadamente estábamos un poco menos expuestos al graffiti cuando crecíamos.
I wouldn’t class myself as a graffiti writer, as I don’t paint letters or illegally. I like painting with graffiti writers though! I’m a character Artist, so I think my work often sits nicely next to letters in collaborations and productions.
Back to the question, my brother was really into graffiti at a young age (and still is) so I was initially inspired by him. My first memory of letter writing was a drawing of his name on his bedroom door, using 2 aeroplanes at angles to make the letter M.
We also used to buy Graphotism, before we really had the Internet, so I used to love looking at that magazine. The area we grew up in didn’t have much graffiti or graffiti artists, so we were a bit unexposed to it when growing up unfortunately.

What do you try to say with your graffiti?
No intento decir nada y no intento complacer a una audiencia en particular. Solo creo personajes de mis pensamientos. Sin embargo, me hace feliz cuando a la gente le gusta mi trabajo, especialmente si hace reír a la gente un poco.
I don’t try and say anything and I don’t try and please an audience. I just create characters from my thoughts. It does make me happy when people like my work though, especially if it makes people laugh a little.

What is your style?
Pinto principalmente personajes animales con colores en bloques sólidos. Me gusta hacer mis líneas lo más limpias posible.
I paint mostly animal characters with solid block colours. I like making my lines as clean as possible.
¿Nos podrias contar como es un dia normal durante tu vida?
Would you mind telling us how is your normal day during the week?
Realmente no tengo un día normal, ¡porque cada día siempre es diferente! Mi tipo de día favorito sería ir a pintar a la puesta de sol o sentarme en mi apartamento y dibujar todo el día.
I don’t really have a normal day, as each day is always different! My favourite type of day would be to go painting in the sunshine or sit in my flat and sketch all day.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Comencé a pintar letras, ya sea ‘Roo’ o, a veces ‘Sez’. Esto fue de corta duración ya que rápidamente recurrí a los personajes, encontrándolos divertidos y más fáciles. Realmente aprecio un buen estilo de mano, ¡no el mío!
Estoy mucho más contento con algunas de mis pinturas recientes, ya que comencé a sentirme más segura con las líneas y considerando el color. Definitivamente dedico mucho tiempo a la elaboración de la paleta de colores; Creo que es tan importante.
I started out painting letters, either ‘Roo’ or sometimes ‘Sez’. This was short lived as I quickly turned to characters, finding it fun and easier. I really appreciate a good hand style, just not my own!
I’m much happier with some of my recent paintings as I’ve started to feel more confident with lines and considering colour. I definitely put a lot of time into working out the colour palette; I think it’s so important.

What would you do, if you weren’t an artist?
Me hubiera gustado trabajar con animales.
I’d want to work with animals.
¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del graffiti que te mantiene haciendolo?
What do you like the most about graffiti that keeps you doing it?
Pintar en gran formato. Pintar lo que quiera. Reunirme con otros artistas. Hacer nuevos amigos y viajar a lugares geniales.
Painting big. Painting whatever I want. Hanging out with other Artists. Making new friends. Going to cool places.
