What motivated you to get started being a street artist?

Quería comunicarme con el público sobre temas públicos (como la democracia) que me preocupan apasionadamente.

I wanted to communicate with the public about public issues (like democracy) that I care passionately about.

What do you try to say with your artworks?

Intento utilizar la sátira para estimular a la gente común a pensar conmigo sobre políticos, burócratas, televangelistas y capitalistas globales que, creo, abusan de su poder.

I try to use satire to tickle regular people into thinking along with me about politicians, bureaucrats, televangelists and global capitalists who I think are abusing their power.

¿Te importaria contarnos como es un dia normal durante tu vida?

Would you mind telling us how is your normal day during the week?

Me levanto, doy de comer a los gatos, hago café para mí y para mi maravillosa esposa, leo las noticias, escribo un poco sobre una novela en la que llevo escribiendo durante años, luego voy al estudio, pongo las noticias repetidas de «NYPD» Blue «o canales de noticias y hago cosas en el estudio durante unas horas.

I wake up, feed the cats, make coffee for me and my wonderful wife, read the news, write a little bit on a novel I’ve been goofing with for years, then go into the studio, turn on either reruns of “NYPD Blue” or news channels and do studio stuff for a few hours.

Do you remember the first artwork?

Fue en Los Angeles, California en 1986. Era un cartel callejero basado en 4 pequeños retratos pintados al óleo de Ronald Reagan y 3 miembros de su gabinete. El texto era «HOMBRES SIN LABIOS». Mis amigos y yo pusimos carteles por todo LA.

I was in Los Angeles, California in 1986. It was a street poster based on 4 little oil painted portraits of Ronald Reagan and 3 members of his cabinet. The text was, “MEN WITH NO LIPS.” My friends and I put the posters up all over LA.

What would you do, if you weren’t a street art artist?

¿Qué es lo qué más te gusta del street art que te mantiene haciendolo?

What do you like the most about street art that keeps you doing it?

Reunir a un grupo de grandes voluntarios y hacer una pequeña travesura para protestar por las personas que tienen demasiado poder sobre nosotros y que abusan de él en nombre de la democracia representativa, la religión y el capitalismo global.

Getting a bunch of great volunteers together and making a little mischief protesting about people who have too much power over us and are abusing it in the name of representative democracy, religion and global capitalism.

What is your real job?

Vendo las pinturas originales en galerías de arte y carteles y grabados de edición limitada en mi sitio web. También realizo charlas en universidades de los EE. UU.

I sell the original paintings in art galleries and posters and limited edition prints on my website. I also do talks at universities around the U.S.
