¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?

What motivated you to get started painting?

Siempre he sido un chico artístico y muchos de mis amigos también lo eran. Algunos vivían cerca de mí y vivíamos cerca de las vías del tren, donde buscábamos botellas de refresco viejas, patinábamos juntos y siempre estaba presente en algunas de las actividades que hacíamos… Creo que el momento decisivo fue cuando tenía unos 18 años y mis amigos me dijeron: «Vamos a hacer grafitis y tú también deberías hacerlo, ya que te gusta el arte». A partir de ahí, básicamente exploramos todos los sitios que pudimos en busca de lugares dónde pintar.

I have always been an art kid and a lot of my friends were as well. Some of them lived close to me and we lived close to the tracks where we would search for old soda bottles, we would skate together and so it was always looming around some of the activities we would do…..i think the real moment was when i was about 18 my friends were like «we are gonna do graffiti and you should too since you like art» so from there we just basically explored everywhere we could looking for spots to paint.

 

 

 

 

 

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del graffiti y lo que menos?

What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?

Diría que lo que más me gusta en este momento es plasmar un boceto en algo en lo que he trabajado duro y simplemente divertirme con el color, especialmente en buena compañía. Lo que menos me gusta es la política, los egos y las peleas.

I’d say what i like most at this point is popping an outline onto something i’ve worked hard on and really just having fun with color especially in good company. What i like least is politics, egos and beef.

What do you think about the idea of us publishing your artworks on our web «elrincondelasboquillas.com»?

Bueno, llevo años trabajando en mi arte, y no es que sea el mejor ni lo sepa todo, pero es un honor que me publiquen y contar con el apoyo de mis compañeros. Este año ha sido especial y sienta bien que te celebren por algo que te gusta y en lo que trabajas duro. El graffiti ocupa un lugar especial en mi corazón. Y estoy muy agradecido por la oportunidad.

Well for years i have been working on my craft, and not to say im the best or know it all but its a honor to be published and have the support of my peers. This year has been special and it feels good to be celebrated for something you love and work hard on. Graffiti has a special space in my heart. And im extremely grateful for the opportunity.

 

 

 

 

 

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?

Do you remember the first piece?

Mis primeras obras eran realmente malas, y la primera en concreto es lo que yo llamo «graffiti civil». Estaba en unos puentes aquí en Asheville, Carolina del Norte. Por aquel entonces, el Rusto costaba 3 dólares la lata. Creo que mi primer gran avance en el graffiti fue cuando empecé a vivir con Mango, de GC, y me introdujo en la comunidad local aquí en Carolina del Norte, donde muchos escritores venían a nuestra casa a dibujar o prepararse para sus misiones. Mi segundo gran avance fue cuando empecé a pintar con Amyk MHC, Aside4, TCE Valet, TCE Sicr Lords y tipos como Traser. Empecé a desarrollar algunos estilos que eran al menos decentes, tenía algo de inspiración y algunos conocimientos que había adquirido y que me ayudaron. Mi tercera fase en el graffiti es que, aunque había reunido algunas de estas cosas, tenía que ponerlas en práctica y construir realmente mi propio nombre. Así que lo que realmente ha cambiado desde el principio hasta ahora es que muchos de estos chicos han dejado de pintar, se han mudado o he perdido el contacto con ellos por el camino. Me he adentrado en el amplio mundo de la inspiración online. Y estoy haciendo lo que considero una nueva versión del estilo tradicional de las letras. La diferencia entre ahora y entonces es como la noche y el día. Mis letras bailan entre sí. He conocido a algunos de los mejores grafiteros del mundo y es algo que realmente me sorprende cuando pienso en la dirección que está tomando la pintura.

My first first pieces were really really bad and the first specifically is what i like to call civilian graffiti. It was at some of the tressels here in Asheville nc. Back when rusto was 3 dallors a can. I think my first break in graffiti was when i started living with mango from gc and i was introduced to the local community here in north Carolina where we would have many writers come to our house and drawl or get ready for missions My second break was when i started painting with amyk mhc aside4 tce valet tce sicr lords and uh guys like traser. I started cracking out some styles that were at least decent had some inspiration and some knowledge i scooped up that helped me.My 3rd faze in graffiti is although i gathered some of this stuff, i had to put it into practice and really build out my own name. So whats really changed from the beginning middle to now is alot of these guys have stopped painting, moved or i lost contact with them along the way. Ive moved into the wide world of online inspiration. And doing what i feel is a new take on a traditional style of lettering. The difference from now and then is night and day. My letters dance with each other. Ive met some of the worlds best graffiti writers and its truly something that amazes me when i think about the direction that painting is going.

Lo único que añadiría a esto es el consejo de que todo empieza en la cocina, practicar es imprescindible para llegar a ser bueno. El estilo salvaje no es por donde hay que empezar. Ser sincero con tus amigos es importante, ser fiel a ti mismo es esencial. Muestra un poco de cariño a la gente que no conoces. Y da pasos en la dirección correcta y quién sabe cuáles serán las posibilidades. Y, sobre todo, diviértete.

the only thing i would add to this is the advice that everything starts in the kitchen, drawling is imperative to becoming good. Wild style isn’t where you start. Being real with your friends is important, staying true to yourself is essential. Show some love to people you don’t know. And put steps in the right direction and theres no telling whats the possibilities. And above all, have some fun
