¿De dónde viene tu apodo?

Where does your pseudonym come from?

Corría el ’91 y me compré el vinilo de Public Enemy Apocalypse 91… The Enemy Strikes Black. Por aquel entonces aún firmaba con rotus de los que tienes por casa, poniendo «Oscar90». Estaba flipando con el disco, leyendo el tracklist, y de repente veo el tema número 8: Move!. En cuanto lo leí supe que ese era el nombre perfecto pa’ mi tag. Y desde entonces, hasta hoy.

It was ’91 and I bought the Public Enemy Apocalypse 91 vinyl… The Enemy Strikes Black. At that time I was still signing it with the kind of stickers you have around the house, putting “Oscar90”. I was freaking out about the album, reading the tracklist, and all of a sudden I saw track number 8: Move! As soon as I read it I knew that was the perfect name for my tag. And since then, until today.

 

 

 

¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?

What motivated you to get started painting?

Vivo en una ciudad pequeña, muy turística. Cada verano la población se multiplica por dos o tres, llena de franceses, alemanes, ingleses, madrileños… gente de todas partes. Algunos no venían solo por la playa, también pintaban o bailaban breakdance. Era 1986, yo tenía 9 años, y me fascinaba ver como aparecían graffitis en los muros grises, y cómo la gente bailaba sobre cartones en la calle. Me llamaba la atención, despertaba mi curiosidad… pero no fue hasta 1990 que empecé a escribir mi nombre, con cierta timidez. Ya en 1991, con unos compañeros de clase, empezamos a pintar casi de forma obsesiva. Y ahí empezó todo.

I live in a small town, very touristic. Every summer the population multiplies by two or three, full of French people, from Germany, English tourists, people from Madrid… people from everywhere. Some of them didn’t come just for the beach, they also painted or breakdanced. It was 1986, I was 9 years old, and I was fascinated to see how graffiti appeared on the gray walls, and how people danced on cardboards in the street. It caught my attention, aroused my curiosity… but it wasn’t until 1990 that I started to write my name, with a certain shyness. Already in 1991, with some classmates, we began to paint almost obsessively. And that’s when it all started.

 

  

 

 

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del graffiti y lo que menos? 

What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?

Lo que más me gusta del graffiti es la gente. Los amigos que he ido conociendo a lo largo de los años, en tantos lugares fuera de mi ciudad. Personas que, sin apenas conocerte, te han ofrecido un sitio donde dormir, algo de comer, y te han tratado como uno más solo por el hecho de que fueras a su ciudad, les llamaras para pintar y pasar un día compartiendo lo que más te gusta hacer.

Y sí, lo que menos me gusta del graffiti… también es la gente. Esa parte tóxica que aparece de vez en cuando, que intenta ponerte zancadillas. Lo típico de “si yo no puedo, tú tampoco”. Pero al final, eso queda en segundo plano. Lo compensa todo lo que decía antes: los buenos amigos que te deja este camino, que son muchos.

What do you think about the idea of us publishing your artworks on our web «elrincondelasboquillas.com«?

Creo que te voy siguiendo desde los tiempos del Fotolog. Y aunque nunca he sido de enviar fotos a fanzines ni a publicaciones (aunque alguna vez lo he intentado), esta vez me animé a colaborar por la confianza que me da verte tantos años ahí, picando piedra. Además, no está de más publicar las piezas en un sitio que no sea solo mi página personal.

I think I’ve been following you since the days of Fotolog. And although I’ve never been one to send photos to fanzines or publications (although I’ve tried), this time I decided to collaborate because of the confidence it gives me to see you there for so many years, chipping away at the stone. Besides, it doesn’t hurt to publish the pieces in a place that is not only my personal page.

 

 

 

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?

Do you remember the first piece?

Por supuesto, era 1991 y ya estaba completamente enganchado a la escena de graffiti que se movía en la ciudad, que para entonces ya era bastante potente. Había grupos de gente más mayor que yo, como los BCR, los CHB, gente más mayor como Vania, Fede, David & Jungle, Roberto, Iñaki, Noke de Benicarló, Kato de Montpellier, el Salek de los PTV de Madrid. Todo eso me animó, junto a dos compañeros de clase, a lanzarnos por primera vez: cogimos pintura plástica blanca, un SprayColor grande negro, y nos plantamos delante de un muro con toda la emoción del mundo para hacernos nuestra primera pieza.

Escribimos “RMO” —Rubén, Manolo y Óscar—, cada uno pintó su inicial. Yo recuerdo perfectamente cómo tracé la “O” con un cartón, porque no sabía muy bien cómo hacer una línea curva y que me quedara decente. No tengo foto de esa pieza, pero la tengo grabada en la memoria por todo lo que significó para mí.

Of course, it was 1991 and I was already completely hooked on the graffiti scene that was moving in the city, which by then was already quite powerful. There were groups of people older than me, like BCR, CHB, older people like Vania, Fede, David & Jungle, Roberto, Iñaki, Noke from Benicarló, Kato from Montpellier, Salek from PTV in Madrid. All this encouraged me, along with two classmates, to take the plunge for the first time: we took white plastic paint, a big black SprayColor, and we stood in front of a wall with all the excitement in the world to make our first piece.

We wrote “RMO” -Rubén, Manolo and Óscar-, each one painted his initial. I remember perfectly how I traced the “O” with a piece of cardboard, because I didn’t really know how to make a curved line and make it look decent. I don’t have a photo of that piece, but I have it engraved in my memory for all that it meant to me.

And finally, anything you want to say?

Bueno, para terminar, contar que actualmente represento al grupo Golden Boys, un colectivo formado por gente de diferentes ciudades de España a los que admiro profundamente y de los que sigo aprendiendo cada día.

Y ya que tengo la oportunidad, aprovecho este espacio para contarte que hoy en día llevo un taller de serigrafía, donde tengo la suerte de trabajar y colaborar con muchos amigos y conocidos del graffiti, entre otros proyectos.

Well, to finish, to tell you that I currently represent the Golden Boys group, a collective formed by people from different cities in Spain whom I deeply admire and from whom I continue to learn every day.
