¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Where does your pseudonym come from?
Mi apodo es Reos, y aunque años más tarde descubrí que en español significa «presos», en su origen no fue más que la elección inocente de un chaval de 14 años que simplemente combinó cuatro letras que le sonaban bien. Me lo pasaba genial haciendo sketches con ese nombre, y con el tiempo, se convirtió en mi apodo. Un par de años después, ya era el nombre por el que todo mi entorno me conocía, hasta el punto de volverse prácticamente mi identidad principal.
My nickname is Reos, and although years later I discovered that in Spanish it means “prisoners”, it was originally nothing more than the innocent choice of a 14 year old kid who simply combined four letters that sounded good to him. I had a great time doing sketches with that name, and over time, it became my nickname. A couple of years later, it was already the name by which everyone around me knew me, to the point of practically becoming my main identity.

What motivated you to get started painting?
Si me remonto a mis primeros recuerdos relacionados con el graffiti, tendría unos 9 años cuando, tras ver una noticia en la televisión sobre «treneros», le comenté a mi padre y a mi tío que, de mayor, trabajaría pintando graffitis en trenes. Más adelante, una mezcla de influencias y estéticas me llevó a interesarme por la cultura urbana del rap y el graffiti. Junto a un compañero de clase, pasamos un curso entero dibujando letras en nuestros cuadernos como locos. Cuando llegó el verano, llegaron también los primeros tags, y unos meses después, mi primera pieza.
Otro recuerdo que me impulsó a no parar fue la primera vez que la policía me pilló pintando. Tenía unos 15 años y, como era menor, me llevaron a la comisaría a la espera de que llegara mi madre. Me imaginaba lo peor. El policía que me había requisado como 12 sprays le dijo a mi madre: «No se preocupe, su hijo seguro que no volverá a hacer estas tonterías». Y mi madre, sin dudarlo, le respondió: «No lo tengo yo tan claro». Aquello me dejó en shock. Creo que fue un momento crucial para afianzar mi determinación, especialmente porque en aquel entonces la mayoría de la gente de mi entorno no comprendía mi pasión por el graffiti.
If I go back to my first memories related to graffiti, I was about 9 years old when, after seeing a news on TV about “writers painting trains”, I told my father and uncle that, when I grew up, I would work painting graffiti on trains. Later, a mix of influences and aesthetics led me to become interested in the urban culture of rap and graffiti. Together with a classmate, we spent an entire school year drawing letters in our notebooks like crazy. When summer came, so did the first tags, and a few months later, my first piece.
Another memory that pushed me not to stop was the first time the police caught me painting. I was about 15 years old and, as I was a minor, they took me to the police station to wait for my mother to arrive. I imagined the worst. The policeman who had seized about 12 sprays from me told my mother, “Don’t worry, your son won’t do this nonsense again”. And my mother, without hesitation, replied: “I’m not so sure about that. That left me in shock. I think it was a turning point in my determination, especially because at that time most people around me didn’t understand my passion for graffiti.
¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del graffiti y lo que menos?
What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?
Lo que más me gusta del graffiti es la comunidad. Para mí, es como una gran familia repartida por todo el mundo. Compartir esta pasión con otras personas me ha permitido conectar con amigos en diferentes países, y eso es un auténtico tesoro. Así como he acogido a mucha gente en mi casa, sé que ellos harían lo mismo por mí en sus ciudades. Es algo muy bonito que merece la pena cuidar.
Lo que menos me gusta es esa parte de la comunidad que lo ve como una competencia insana, donde el ego tóxico solo genera conflictos y problemas. Tampoco me atrae la gente que no acepta ni entiende nuevas formas de expresión dentro del graffiti, ya sea en términos de estilos o sub movimientos.
What I like most about graffiti is the community. For me, it’s like a big family spread all over the world. Sharing this passion with other people has allowed me to connect with friends in different countries, and that’s a real treasure. Just as I have welcomed many people into my home, I know they would do the same for me in their cities. It’s a beautiful thing that’s worth taking care of.
What I like the least is that part of the community that sees it as an unhealthy competition, where toxic ego only generates conflicts and problems. I’m also not attracted to people who don’t accept or understand new forms of expression within graffiti, either in terms of styles or sub movements.

Ha sido un placer hacer esta entrevista, la primera en la que hablo sobre graffiti, y me ha hecho muchísima ilusión que sea contigo. Recuerdo que has estado presente desde mis inicios, cuando empecé a pintar, y eso me parece un trabajo increíble por tu parte. Personalmente me gusta mucho organizar eventos de graffiti en Barcelona, tenemos un proyecto llamado Mural Jam desde hace 6 años y viendo los años que llevas tu apostando por la cultura me deja fascinado. Gracias!.
It has been a pleasure to do this interview, the first one in which I talk about graffiti, and I was very excited to do it with you. I remember that you have been present since my beginnings, when I started painting, and I think that’s an incredible job on your part. Personally I like to organize graffiti events in Barcelona, we have a project called Mural Jam for 6 years and seeing the years that you have been betting on culture leaves me fascinated. ¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Fue un sábado de otoño de 2007, un día realmente especial e inolvidable. Aquella tarde pintamos un mural con mis compañeros boy scouts después de comer, y casualmente, yo había quedado con varios amigos para hacer mi primera pieza de graffiti. Recuerdo a TANK, un amigo que aún conservo, aunque él ya no pinta. En aquel entonces tenía experiencia y sus piezas me flipaban. Fuimos a un puente bajo la autopista, no muy lejos de mi casa, y me hice dos «piezas» de aproximadamente metro y medio de ancho con tres sprays Hardcore: verde máquina, magenta y trazo negro.
It was a Saturday in the fall of 2007, a really special and unforgettable day. That afternoon we painted a mural with my fellow boy scouts after lunch, and coincidentally, I had met up with several friends to do my first piece of graffiti. I remember TANK, a friend I still have, although he no longer paints. At that time he was experienced and his pieces were amazing to me. We went to a bridge under the highway, not far from my house, and I made two “pieces” about a meter and a half wide with three Hardcore sprays: machine green, magenta and black line.

Creo que el graffiti está en un buen momento para la comunidad de España, dado que es un arte (en mi opinión) que está más familiarizado en la sociedad que en el pasado y, a pesar de que siempre tendrá esa parte ilegal de la cual yo también disfruto, la situación actual nos brinda la oportunidad de trabajar pintando murales y para mi tener el spray como herramienta de oficio es un sueño del cual cuando era adolescente creía que sería algo imposible. Aprovecho también para compartir mi cuenta de IG donde publico semanalmente los muros y proyectos que voy pintando.
I think graffiti is experiencing a good moment for the community in Spain, given that it’s an art form (in my opinion) that’s more familiar in society than in the past. Although it will always have an illegal side, which I also enjoy, the current situation gives us the opportunity to work painting murals. For me, having spray paint as a tool is a dream that, as a teenager, I thought would be impossible. I also take this opportunity to share my IG account, where I post the walls and projects I’m painting weekly.
