¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Where does your pseudonym come from?
Conocí la figura de la artista Lilya Yuryevna Brik durante la adolescencia, en el bachillerato, y me cautivó. Fue una mujer de vanguardia, muy poderosa, feminista, de mirada profunda. Pasó a la historia por ser la imagen del cartelismo ruso. Una persona que rompió con los estereotipos de belleza del siglo XX y consiguió ser ella misma. En ese momento, ¡yo quería ser como ella! Yo era muy vulnerable, y me preguntaba qué haría ella en mi lugar. Lilya Brik me ha inspirado muchísimo y cuando los Urban Soldierz me dijeron que tenía que firmar con un nombre, descarté el que me puso mi madre, y lo tuve claro: Lily Brick. ¡Me gusta más que mi propio nombre!
En mi homenaje a Lilya Brik, definí mi nombre artístico haciendo una modificación del suyo, empleando la palabra ladrillo en inglés, como guiño a los muros que pinto.
I met the figure of the artist Lilya Yuryevna Brik when I was a teenager, in high school, and I was captivated. She was an avant-garde woman, very powerful, feminist, with a deep look. She went down in history as the image of Russian poster art. A person who broke with the beauty stereotypes of the 20th century and managed to be herself. At that time, I wanted to be like her! I was very vulnerable, and I wondered what she would do in my place. Lilya Brik has inspired me so much and when the Urban Soldierz told me I had to tag a name, I discarded the one my mother gave me, and it was clear: Lily Brick. I like it better than my own name!
In my homage to Lilya Brik, I defined my artistic name by making a modification of hers, using the word brick in English, as a nod to the walls I paint.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
Empecé a intervenir en la calle en verano de 2015, en las paredes Del Río Segre. Lily Brick nació fruto de la casualidad. Yo estaba trabajando en una imprenta y, entre los clientes que venían, un día entró uno de los miembros del grupo Old School de Lleida, que firma como “Bors”, que quería encargar camisetas personalizadas. Así nos hicimos amigos. Me empezó a hablar del mundo del graffiti, del Hip Hop y, como hacía poco que yo había llegado de Bruselas y no quedaba con mucha gente, me animó a ir a uno de sus encuentros. Hasta entonces asociaba el graffiti al vandalismo, lo relacionaba con lo peor. Pero para mi sorpresa, rompí esos prejuicios y conocí a su crew, los Urban Soldierz, en los muros de la canalización del Río Segre. Llevaban sus cajas de spray, su música, su buen rollo, iban acompañados de sus familias… Parecía que, delante del muro, esos hombres a veces rudos y fornidos, bailaban. ¡Se sentían plenamente libres pintando! Y así me sentí yo, con un mundo nuevo abriéndose ante mis ojos.
I began to intervene on the street in the summer of 2015, on the walls of the Segre River. Lily Brick was born by chance. I was working in a print shop and, among the customers who came, one day one of the members of the Old School group from Lleida, who tag as «Bors», came in and wanted to order custom t-shirts. That’s how we became friends. He started talking to me about the world of graffiti and Hip Hop and, as I had just arrived from Brussels and didn’t meet many people, he encouraged me to go to one of his meetings. Until then I associated graffiti with vandalism, I associated it with the worst. But to my surprise, I broke those prejudices and met his crew, the Urban Soldierz, on the walls of the canalization of the Segre River. They were carrying their spray cans, their music, their good vibes, they were accompanied by their families… It seemed that, in front of the wall, these sometimes rough and burly men were dancing. They felt completely free painting! And that’s how I felt, with a new world opening up before my eyes.

What is your style?
Mis obras se podrían considerar una mirada contemporánea de diferentes estilos históricos, con los que me siento identificada artísticamente: Art Nouveau, Prerrafaelismo y Romanticismo.
My works could be considered a contemporary look at different historical styles, with which I feel identified artistically: Art Nouveau, Pre-Raphaelitism and Romanticism.

Creo que es un honor haber sido seleccionada para formar parte de una página referente y que lleva tanto tiempo apoyando el mundo del graffiti, y ser una más de la lista de grandes escritores y grandes artistas que han ayudado a que mi generación pueda descubrir este mundo.
I think it is an honor to have been selected to be part of a reference website that has been supporting the graffiti world for so long, and to be one more in the list of great writers and great artists that have helped my generation to discover this world.

Do you remember the first piece?
Por supuesto, me chorreaba el spray y no tenía ni idea de como funcionaban las boquillas. Lo que hice era muy desproporcionado y algo ridículo, pero, a pesar de enfadarme con el bote, disfruté muchísimo. Nunca imaginé que ese día sería el principio de lo que se ha convertido en mi oficio.
Of course, I was dripping spray and had no idea how the caps worked. What I did was very disproportionate and somewhat ridiculous, but, despite getting mad at the can, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I never imagined that day would be the beginning of what has become my trade.

And finally, anything you want to say?
Que pinto por amor, también para ganarme la vida. Que a pesar de que me encante mi trabajo, no tengo por qué hacerlo gratis. Que es un oficio muy duro, por la exposición al exterior y por el desgaste físico, y que es muy solitario, en la mayoría de los casos. Eso me hace una persona sumamente emocional que adora estar rodeada de los suyos.
That I paint for love, also to make a living. That even though I love my work, I don’t have to do it for free. That it is a very hard job, because of the exposure to the outside and the physical wear and tear, and that it is very lonely, in most cases. That makes me a very emotional person who loves to be surrounded by her loved ones.
