Where does your pseudonime come from?

El trabajo publico y no publico que hago es bajo mi propio nombre, Collin van der Sluijs.

The public or non public work i do is under my own name, Collin van der Sluijs.

¿Qué te motivó para empezar a ser un artista?

What motivated you to get started being an artist?

En la ciudad donde vivía en los noventa, vi a unos tipos pintando en 1993 y eso fue un gran comienzo, pero empecé a dibujar en 1991. Después de 1993 las cosas se pusieron serias, colaborando en la actualidad en proyectos de todo el mundo.

In the town i lived in the nineties, i saw guys painting in 1993 and that was a serious kick off, but started sketching in 1991. After 1993 things got serious, resulting in the projects that are happening now worldwide.

What is your style?

Las fotos que te estoy enviando son ejemplos de graffitis. A principios de los años 2000, cuando estudiaba ilustración, intenté hacer una combinación con el amor y la pasión por el graffiti, quizás eso pudiera ser útil para la ilustración. La crew de SOL fue un paso más allá en eso, y Betamaxx, Space 3. Los primeros en Holanda que construyeron el camino entre el diseño gráfico, la ilustración. Y poner eso en las calles, con carteles, plantillas, piezas que siguen siendo clásicas y lo serán para siempre. Así que traté de encontrar mi propio estilo y después de 29 años pintando todo va a buen ritmo.

Para ser honesto, no tengo una definición de mi propio «estilo», sólo hago lo que quiero hacer sin límites, uso cualquier material que esté alrededor, en papel, pared, lienzo. Todo es sólo una superficie.

The photos i am sending you guy are examples that come from graffiti. In the early 2000’s when i was studying illustration i tried to make a combination with the love and passion for graffiti, into something that maybe could be usefull for illustration. The SOL crew was a step further in that, and Betamaxx, Space 3. The first ones in The Netherlands that build the bridge between graphic design, illustration. And to put that out in the streets, with posters, stencils, latex pieces that are still classic and forever will be. So i tried to find my own style and after 29 years of painting everything is in good pace.

To be honoust i don’t have a definition about my own ‘style’ i just do what i want to do without any boundaries, use whatever material is around, on paper, wall, canvas. It’s all just a surface.

Esto está muy bien para mí. No tengo miedo de compartir mi trabajo, solía tenerlo, pero las plataformas como instagram son como grandes montones de basura de todos modos. Sólo comparto algunas cosas que hago en general. Pero lo uso y me encanta. De lo contrario no les respondería, gracias por tenderme la mano.

That is totally fine with me. I’m not scared of sharing my work, i used to be but platforms like instagram are like big garbage piles anyway. Only sharing a few things that i do in general. But i use it and i love it. Otherwise i wouldn’t response to you guys, thanks for reaching out.

Do you remember the first piece?

Buena pregunta, fue en un pueblo en algún lugar del año 1992 en un pequeño túnel. Yendo allí en bicicleta, sintiendo la prisa, lo único que se veía en el vecindario eran firmas y algunas con contornos en esos tiempos. Así que hacer el contorno primero, rellenar después de eso, hombre eso fue un desastre total. Después de ese período fui al instituto donde conocí a algunos chicos, de la misma edad, que se convirtieron en mis hermanos de por vida. Todavía lo son.

Good question, it was in a small village somewhere in 1992 in a small tunnel. Going there by bike , feeling the rush, the only thing you saw in your neighbourhood were tags and some tags with outlines during those times. So do the outline first, fill-inn after that, man that was a totally disaster. After that period i went to high school where i met some guys, same age, that became my brothers for life. They still are.
