¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Where does your pseudonym come from?
Esta va a ser probablemente la respuesta más larga de la entrevista.
Al principio elegí el nombre ANE, porque estas 3 letras difieren bastante en la forma si las escribes en mayúsculas o minúsculas (ane/ANE), así que podía usar cada letra de 2 formas diferentes lo que me daba algo más de variedad. Además, mi nombre se pronuncia en neerlandés como EEN, que significa no. 1. Más tarde añadí ONE porque 3 letras empezaban a ser un poco aburridas y con 6 letras podía estirar mis piezas un poco más. Ahora también se puede pronunciar mi nombre como «anyone»….. Como en «podría ser cualquiera el que hizo esta pieza en inglés».

At first I chose the name ANE, because these 3 letters differ quite a bit in shape whether you write them in capitals or small letters (ane/ANE), so I could use each letter in 2 different ways which gave me some more variety. Also, you pronounce my name in Dutch as EEN, which means no. 1. Later the addition ONE was added because 3 letters started to get a bit boring and with 6 letters I could stretch my pieces a bit more. Now you could also pronounce my name as «Anyone»….. As in “it could be anyone who did this piece”.

What motivated you to get started painting?
De niño me gustaba dibujar, pero la mayoría de las veces no sabía qué dibujar……entonces vi películas como «Beat Street»…..y sobre todo «Style Wars». Después de ver esas películas supe que dibujar letras y hacer graffitis era lo que más me gustaba.
As a kid I liked to draw, but most of the times I didn’t know what to draw……then I saw movies like “Beat Street”…..and especially “Style Wars”. After seeing those movies I knew drawing letters and making graffiti art was what I liked most.
¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del graffiti y lo que menos?
What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?
Lo que más me gusta del graffiti es que es una forma de arte que creas junto con tus amigos y competidores. No hay reglas externas, ni un profesor de arte que te diga cómo tienes que hacerlo. Las duras reglas de la calle en las que te mueves e intentas ganarte un poco de respeto. No hay uso directo, pero aun así nos lo tomamos en serio.
En cuanto la gente empieza a tomárselo demasiado en serio o se vuelve arrogante, yo abandono.
The best I like about graffiti is that it is an art form that you create together with your friends and competitors. No external rules, no art teacher telling you how to do it. The tough rules of the street in which you move and try to gain some respect. No direct use, but we still take it seriously.
As soon as people start taking it too seriously or become arrogant, I drop out.

Creo que está bien. No soy el tipo de escritor que quiere salir en revistas o entrevistas, pero de vez en cuando está bien exponerse y que la gente de fuera de mi ciudad vea mis obras.
I think it’s cool. I am not that type of graffiti writer that wants to be in magazines or interviews, but once in a while it’s nice to get some exposure and people from outside my city get to see my pieces.
¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Mi primera pieza de verdad fue junto con mi compañero de fechorías Real. Ya habíamos hecho algunas pequeñas piezas ilegales, pero esta vez habíamos robado suficiente pintura para hacer algo grande. Entre 1989 y 1990 por fin pudimos hacer una obra grande. Por aquel entonces no teníamos realmente un estilo. Ya era bastante difícil colocar letras sencillas de ese tamaño en una pared y hacer líneas algo rectas. Fue mucho más tarde cuando desarrollamos nuestro propio estilo. Añadiré una foto de esa «primera» pieza. Cuando miro la foto ahora, en realidad es una bonita pieza oldskool mal torcida…..como los años pasan sólo se pone más fresco.
My first real piece was together with my partner in crime Real. We had already made some small illegal pieces, but this time we had stolen enough paint to make something big. Somewhere around 1989-1990 we were finally able to make a big piece. At that time we didn’t really have a style. It was hard enough to get simple letters that big on a wall and make somewhat straight lines. It was only much later that we developed our own style. I will add a picture of that «first» piece. When I look at the picture now, it is actually a nice bad crooked oldskool piece…..as the years go by it only gets cooler.

Actualmente tengo mi propia tienda de graffiti en Eindhoven. Nada serio, sino simplemente disfrutar de mi «hobby»… el graffiti. Doy talleres, hago murales y pinturas por encargo, pero sobre todo me gusta hacer mis cosas de forma relajada. Nunca pensé que esta afición ilegal se convertiría en mi «trabajo», pero eso es lo bonito del graffiti……: siempre existirá y seguirá inspirando.
Nowadays I have my own graffiti shop in Eindhoven. Nothing serious, but just enjoying my «hobby»… graffiti. I give workshops, make murals and paintings on commission, but I especially like to do my own thing in a relaxed way. Never thought that this illegal hobby would become my «work», but that is the beauty of graffiti……it will always exist and continue to inspire.
