¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Where does your pseudonym come from?
Elegí mi apodo « HONCK a principios de los 90, en primer lugar gracias al estilo de las letras, la K al final o la letra O porque se podía poner un personaje en su lugar. Y también es una referencia a una canción de los Rolling Stones «Honky Tonk Woman». Tuve otros nombres antes de «RON» y «UNIK».
I chose my pseudonym « HONCK in the early 90s, firstly thanks to the style of the letters, the K at the end or the letter O because you could put a character in its place. And it’s also a reference to a Rolling Stones song «Honky Tonk Woman». I had other names before «RON» and «UNIK».
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
Siempre me han fascinado los logotipos de grupos musicales en discos de vinilo de rock, soul y hip-hop, y la pintura en general. En 1990 pinté mi primer pieza en una pared y desde entonces no he parado. La motivación era sentir algo positivo, escapar de los problemas de la vida cotidiana y pasar un buen rato con los amigos.
I’ve always been fascinated by music band logos on rock, soul, and hip-hop vinyl records, and painting in general. In 1990, I spray-painted my first graffiti on a wall, and I haven’t stopped since. The motivation was to feel something positive, escape the problems of everyday life, and have a good time with friends.

What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?
Lo que más me gusta del graffiti es que se puede encontrar en todas partes, su capacidad para adaptarse a cualquier medio. Lo que menos me gusta son todos los toyacos y mamones.
What I like most about graffiti is that it can be found everywhere, its ability to adapt to any medium. What I like least is all the toys and suckers.

Publicar imágenes de mi trabajo en un sitio web especializado no me molesta hoy en día. Incluso me anima cuando alguien me lo sugiere. Conectamos a través de Instagram, y hoy en día, muchas conexiones se hacen de esa manera. Hay que avanzar con los tiempos.
Posting images of my work on a specialized website doesn’t bother me today. It’s even encouraging when someone suggests it. We connected through Instagram, and today, many connections are made that way. You have to move with the times.
¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Sí, recuerdo la primera pieza, y también recuerdo mis primeras firmas. Fue en el gimnasio donde íbamos a hacer deporte con el colegio, queríamos que todo el mundo viera nuestras piezas. Mi estilo ha cambiado desde entonces, de eso hace más de 30 años. La motivación para hacer graffiti era diferente, era nuevo para todos, no había muchos escritores, nos veían como matones, hoy como artistas.
Yes, I remember the first piece, and I also remember my first tags. It was on the gymnasium where we went to play sports with the school, we wanted everyone to see our pieces. My style has changed since then, that was over 30 years ago. The motivation to do graffiti was different, it was new for everyone, there weren’t many graffiti artists, we were seen as thugs, today as artists.

El graffiti es seguramente lo que dio sentido a mi vida cuando era joven. No me arrepiento de nada. Hoy hago talleres con jóvenes en escuelas, pero también en la cárcel. Para mí, el graffiti es una forma de crear positividad, de salir un poco y de unir a la gente. Estoy orgulloso de representar esta cultura e intento mantener y transmitir buenos valores. Paz, Amor y Unidad.
Graffiti is surely what gave meaning to my life when I was young. I don’t regret anything. Today I do workshops with young people in schools but also in prison. And for me, graffiti is a way to create positivity, to get out for some, and to bring people together. I am proud to represent this culture and I try to keep and transmit good values. Peace Love and Unity.
