Rosk
My nickname doesn’t have much meaning; I just liked how it sounded. After signing with my brother at the beginning of it all in the mid-1980s as Yavik and B69, I decided on Rosk in the late 1980s, since everyone knew my brother and called him Yavik.

What motivated you to get started painting?
I always liked drawing, comics, oil painting, charcoal, logos, etc. Once, when I was traveling to Madrid as usual to visit my family, from Móstoles to Manuel Becerra, I noticed some graffiti that was different from what I had seen before. It wasn’t like the political protest graffiti and all that stuff… (NATO NO, AUTONOMOUS BASES, FJONS)… It must have been around 1984-85. This time it looked like a logo, but it was handwritten. It wasn’t a stencil or a poster, but it looked like a trademark. It said Muelle R. It stuck in my mind and in my head. As we went through the stations, I saw a few more, not as many as there are now, but enough to realize that it was something different, as if someone were saying, “Here I am! I was here! Someone will talk about me, or wonder who this person is who is signing their name all over the city?” And I understood immediately. I wanted to do that… But that was it, until shortly after, in Móstoles, I started to see a similar phenomenon, this time BERO (He is God), and another one! TXEMA, MANOLOVE18, LOKI, CESAR 86… and I told my brother, “I want to do that, man! I want to find myself a nickname. Shall we do it?” And as usual, you have to get some markers or other materials and start in your neighborhood.

What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?
At first, with the tagging and ilegal graffiti adrenaline rush, nowadays what I like most is when I paint with nice people, when you can tell you have a good feeling, that you get along well, and even if you make a piece, or mural, you start improvising with him or them and you start to see the evolution and you’re completely satisfied, enjoying it, you get home with a good feeling and you start looking at the photos, seeing mistakes or what you like, what you would change, etc… you start talking to the friends you’ve been with and sending each other the best shots. I find it satisfying!
The worst part? Well, there are problems everywhere, and there’s also bullshit, but I’m old enough to focus on the good things and, of course, to know how to choose the right people in this as well.

What do you think about the idea of us publishing your artworks on our web «elrincondelasboquillas.com»?
Sounds good to me, man! It’s another way to reach people who haven’t seen my work, even if they’re on the other side of the world. New technologies, you know?

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Yes, it was quite late because I preferred tagging and stuff…. I made it in a place we called “EL ESCON” in Móstoles, 1989. There were already a lot of pieces back then… It appears in some videos that MAST had. I don’t have a photo, but I have the frame, white plastic and novelty lines, and I think some raspberry red and reddish brown duplicolor, little details and stuff.

Y para terminar ¿algo que quieras decir?
And finally, anything you want to say?
