Pinokibo

Hello, my nickname is Pinokibo. Actually, this name is not the first name I used on the streets, but rather one I adopted after experiencing several journeys in the world of graffiti. My first nickname was B.Jatt (taken from my real name, Bagus Jatti), then it changed to Kibo (taken from the name of one of the humanoid tree characters in the Doraemon series).

I chose that name because it reflects my father’s love for plants. He always cared for and treated his plants like his own children. When I painted on the streets using the name Kibo, it reminded me of my father.

Then, after a few months, I changed my name to Pinokibo, a combination of Kibo and Pinocchio. I chose Pinocchio because it reflects his dishonest nature, like my mother, so I created the name Pinokibo to always remember my father and mother, even though I grew up in a broken home since childhood.

Hola, mi apodo es Pinokibo. En realidad, este nombre no es el primero que utilicé en las calles, sino uno que adopté después de vivir varias experiencias en el mundo del graffiti. Mi primer apodo fue B.Jatt (tomado de mi nombre real, Bagus Jatti), luego cambió a Kibo (tomado del nombre de uno de los personajes arbóreos humanoides de la serie Doraemon).

Elegí ese nombre porque refleja el amor de mi padre por las plantas. Siempre cuidaba y trataba a sus plantas como si fueran sus propios hijos. Cuando pintaba en las calles usando el nombre Kibo, me acordaba de mi padre.

Luego, después de unos meses, cambié mi nombre a Pinokibo, una combinación de Kibo y Pinocho. Elegí Pinocho porque refleja su naturaleza deshonesta, como mi madre, así que creé el nombre Pinokibo para recordar siempre a mi padre y a mi madre, a pesar de que crecí en un hogar roto desde mi infancia.

En realidad, desde pequeño me gustaba dibujar, pero me interesaban más los personajes/anime y los monstruos que surgían de mi propia imaginación. En 2012, me hablaron de una actividad escolar para un examen práctico que consistía en pintar en paredes. En ese momento, también me explicaron qué era el graffiti y me dieron algunas referencias sobre graffiti y personajes.

Cuando llegó el momento del examen práctico de pintar en paredes, sentí una alegría inusual e indescriptible, y hice amigos fácilmente.

En 2013, empecé a dibujar en las calles. Después de dibujar en las calles varias veces y de que mi padre se enterara, él no estaba de acuerdo y tendía a menospreciarlo. Aunque le expliqué mucho sobre el graffiti y otras cosas, él se mantuvo obstinado y no aprobaba que su hijo fuera un artista callejero.

Eso fue lo que me motivó y me hizo querer demostrarle a mi padre que su hijo era más feliz desde que conoció y se dedicó a las actividades de graffiti. Finalmente, ahora él lo entiende y me permite ser un artista callejero.

Actually, ever since I was little, I liked drawing, but I was more into characters/anime and monsters from my own imagination. In 2012, I was told about a school activity for a practical exam involving painting on walls. At that time, I was also told what graffiti was and given some references about graffiti and characters.

When it was time for the practical exam of painting on walls, I felt an unusual and indescribable joy, and I easily made friends.

In 2013, I started drawing on the streets. After I drew on the streets several times and my father found out about it, he disagreed and tended to look down on it. Even though I explained a lot about graffiti and other things, he remained stubborn and did not approve of his son being a street artist.

That was what motivated me and made me want to prove to my father that his son was happier since getting to know and engaging in graffiti activities. Finally, he now understands and allows me to be a street artist.

 

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del graffiti y lo que menos? 

What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?

Lo que más me gusta es la amistad y la conexión. Antes era una persona que no se le daba bien socializar y hacer amigos, pero desde que descubrí el graffiti, todo ha cambiado. He hecho muchos amigos, me resulta más fácil socializar, intercambiar ideas sobre el graffiti y la vida personal, e incluso me gano la vida con el graffiti, todo gracias a la amistad.

El graffiti también crea conexiones universales. Lo que comenzó como un pequeño círculo de amigos se expandió a nivel nacional y luego a nivel mundial. Lo que comenzó como conexiones a través de las redes sociales se convirtió en amistades que parecían como si nos conociéramos desde hacía años. Con el tiempo, he ganado muchos nuevos miembros de la familia en el mundo del graffiti.

Hasta ahora, no hay nada que no me guste del graffiti, porque lo hago según lo que creo y lo que me gusta. La cuestión de pintar sobre las imágenes de los demás, ya sea individualmente o entre grupos, es común en el graffiti.

The thing I like most is friendship and connection. I used to be someone who was not good at socializing and making friends, but since I discovered graffiti, everything has changed. I have made many friends, found it easier to socialize, exchange ideas about graffiti and personal life, and even earned a living from graffiti, all because of friendship.

Graffiti also creates universal connections. What started as a small circle of friends expanded to a national level and then to a global level. What began as connections through social media turned into friendships that felt like we had known each other for years. Over time, I’ve gained many new family members in the graffiti world.

So far, there isn’t anything I dislike about graffiti, because I do it according to what I believe in and what I like. The issue of tagging over each other’s images, either individually or between crews, is common in graffiti.

¡Esto es genial! Hay muchas cosas positivas en este movimiento. Me da la oportunidad de ampliar mis amistades y lazos familiares. Mucha gente se ha familiarizado con mi ciudad, Cilacap (que es una ciudad industrial con muchas fábricas y otros negocios, pero el centro de la ciudad es muy pequeño y es bastante difícil trabajar en ella, aunque nos ayudamos unos a otros, especialmente entre comunidades). Mucha gente conoce mi trabajo y otras cosas.

This is great! There are many positive things about this movement. It gives me the opportunity to expand my friendships and family ties. Many people have become more familiar with my city, Cilacap (which is an industrial city with many factories and other businesses, but the city center is very small and it is quite difficult to work in this city, but we help each other, especially between communities). Para mi primer mural en 2012, hacia finales de año, durante un examen práctico en la escuela, aún no estaba familiarizado con el graffiti ni tenía conocimientos sobre él.

Mi estilo ha experimentado cambios significativos en comparación con cuando empecé a crear arte. Al principio, creaba murales de personajes con pintura y pinceles hasta 2014. En 2015, empecé a experimentar con la pintura en aerosol, y todavía la utilizo hoy en día, aunque ocasionalmente la combino con pintura para áreas o puntos más grandes.

Mi estilo antiguo y mi estilo actual son muy diferentes debido a la diferencia en el uso de pinceles y pintura en aerosol. Mi estilo ha sido influenciado por varios factores y, con el paso del tiempo, es posible que mi estilo continúe cambiando o evolucionando. Por ahora, me siento cómodo con el estilo que tengo.

Mis sentimientos entonces y ahora siguen siendo igualmente agradables y difíciles de explicar con palabras. Hasta ahora, la única diferencia está en el proceso de dibujo y en mis objetivos futuros. Quizás en el pasado solo me centraba en dibujar, pero ahora encuentro un mejor equilibrio charlando con otros escritores cuando me enfrento al mismo lugar. En aquel entonces, también me centraba solo en dibujar y encontrar amigos, pero ahora pienso más en cómo voy a llevar este graffiti y este personaje y qué influencia o beneficios puedo aportar a los que me rodean.

For my first wall painting in 2012 towards the end of the year, during a school practical exam, I was not yet familiar with or knowledgeable about graffiti.

My style has undergone significant changes compared to when I first started creating art. Initially, I created character murals using paint and brushes until 2014. In 2015, I began experimenting with spray paint, and I still use it today, though I occasionally combine it with paint for larger areas or spots.

My old style and current style are very different due to the difference in the use of brushes and spray paint. My style has been influenced by several factors, and as time goes on, it is possible that my style will continue to change or evolve. For now, I am comfortable with the style I have.

My feelings then and now are still equally enjoyable and difficult to explain in words. So far, the only difference is in the drawing process and my future goals. Perhaps in the past I only focused on drawing, but now I find a better balance by chatting with other writers when faced with the same spot. Back then, I was also just focused on drawing and finding friends, but now I think more about how I will bring this graffiti and character and what influence or benefits I can provide to those around me.
