From a young age, I always drew at home. My family really encouraged that side of me, and as a child, I had hundreds of drawings. I also consumed a lot of comics and manga, and I traced and copied countless scenes. I discovered the underground side of spray paint and the world of collecting spots and pieces. First, the adrenaline and the scene itself hook you, then it becomes a habit. Over the years, I’ve seen all sides of graffiti and muralism and have followed both paths in completely different ways. There are times when what drives me to paint is the motivation to create work, to paint new designs. But during periods of writer’s block, what pulls me in is the urge to disconnect when I paint and the desire to leave my mark. I think ego plays a big role in producing work and being consistent.

Desde pequeño siempre había dibujado en casa, mi familia me fomentó bastante esa parte y de niño tenía cientos de dibujos, también consumía mucho comic y manga, y calcaba y copiaba muchísimo las escenas. Descubrí la parte clandestina del spray y la del coleccionista de spots y piezas, primero engancha la adrenalina y el mundillo, luego se convierte en un hábito. Con los años he visto todas las caras del graffiti y muralismo y he seguido ambos caminos de manera totalmente diferenciadas. Hay temporadas que lo que me llama a pintar es la motivación de generar obra, de pintar diseños nuevos. Pero las temporadas de bloqueo lo que tira es el mono, la desconexión en el momento de pintar y el dejar huella. Creo que el ego tiene un gran protagonismo a la hora de producir y ser constante.

¿De dónde viene tu apodo?

Where does your pseudonym come from?

Realmente no hay mucho misterio, Firmo las obras con el nombre de mi instagram (que fonéticamente es mi nombre e iniciales de apellidos) y para carteles y eventos con mi propio nombre. Es un asunto que he querido diferenciar siempre de manera notoria, el aka del muralismo y el de escritor de graffiti.

There’s really not much mystery to it. I sign my artwork with my Instagram handle (which is phonetically my first name and last name initials), and for posters and events, I use my own name. It’s something I’ve always wanted to clearly distinguish between my muralist alias and my graffiti writer alias.

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del arte urbano y lo que menos?

What do you like most about street art and what do you like least?

Lo que más me gusta del graffiti son los viajes, las anécdotas y las experiencias, además de meterte y estar en sitios que casi nadie más entra.. Creo que ese momento clandestino de marcar y rellenar con una astro fat en un spot limpio es inigualable, además de ver la foto pasado el tiempo. En los murales lo más satisfactorio me parece cuando empiezas a ver resultados en el proceso de una obra, y el resultado. Pero me parece que es muy muy diferente la sensación entre lo ilegal y lo legal.

Lo que menos me gusta es parte de la gente que hay en este mundo. He conocido grandes personas por todo europa, pero cada dos por tres me llegan noticias de escritores que dan palizas a otros que ni conocen en cocheras, navajazos, traiciones, chivatazos, intereses… terrible gentuza y terrible pereza.

What I love most graffiti art is the travel, the stories, and the experiences, as well as getting into places that almost no one else goes. I think that clandestine moment of tagging and filling in with an Astro Fat in a clean spot is unmatched, not to mention looking at the photo later on. With murals, the most satisfying thing for me is when you start to see the results of the process, and then the finished piece. But I think the feeling is very, very different between illegal and legal work.

What I like least is some of the people in this world. I’ve met some great people all over Europe, but every now and then I hear news of writers beating up strangers in garages, knife fights, betrayals, snitching, self-interest… terrible scum and terrible laziness.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?

Do you remember the first piece?

Como si fuese ayer. En mi ciudad natal, Pamplona, en el año 2000 una tarde de septiembre me junté de casualidad con un amigo del pueblo por el centro, él era un par de años más pequeño y acababa de comprar unas latas, su hermano era mc y writer y este quería seguir sus pasos. Con toda la seguridad del mundo me lo lleve a mi barrio y le vigile mientras pintaba su pieza, luego con las chustas me dejó probar y obviamente me improvisé una buena chapuza. En una semana hice varios bocetos a cada cual más feo, compre 3 o 4 botes, lo que me dio con la paga semanal, y me hice mi segunda “pieza”. La rueda empezó a girar sin parar, y hasta ahora.

Like it was yesterday. In my hometown of Pamplona, in September 2000, I ran into a friend from my village downtown by chance. He was a couple of years younger than me and had just bought some cans of glue. His brother was an MC and writer, and he wanted to follow in his footsteps. Confidently, I took him to my neighborhood and watched him paint his piece. Then, with the glue, he let me try it, and obviously, I improvised a pretty awful job. In a week, I made several sketches, each one uglier than the last. I bought three or four cans—what my weekly allowance allowed—and made my second piece. The wheel started turning, and it’s still going strong.
