Frodrik
I used to have a completely separate graff name that I wrote on and off for about ten years, once I made the switch into more character based work, people were starting to ask around about who was doing them. So I switched over to ‘FRODRIK’ as I couldn’t think of anything else to go by. Its an old nickname I got called at school, I never really liked it back then, but I’m stuck with it now, so I’m learning to love it.
Solía tener un nombre de escritor de graffiti completamente diferente que utilicé de forma intermitente durante unos diez años, pero cuando empecé a hacer trabajos más basados en personajes, la gente empezó a preguntar quién los hacía. Así que cambié a «FRODRIK», ya que no se me ocurría nada mejor. Es un antiguo apodo que me ponían en el colegio, nunca me gustó mucho entonces, pero ahora me he quedado con él, así que estoy aprendiendo a quererlo.

What motivated you to get started painting?
No creo que haya habido un momento concreto que me hiciera empezar a pintar, pero el skateboarding fue sin duda la puerta de entrada a ello. Como la mayoría, acepté bastante pronto el hecho de que era muy malo haciendo skate y me pasé a la pintura. Dejé el graffiti durante un tiempo cuando tenía diecisiete años para ir a la universidad, que terminé a mitad del primer confinamiento por la COVID. Entonces volví a retomarlo y desde entonces no he mirado atrás.
I don’t think there was one specific moment that made me start painting, but skateboarding was definitely the gateway drug into it. Like most, I came to terms with the fact I was terrible at skateboarding pretty early on and shifted over to painting. I quit graffiti for a bit when I was seventeen to go to university, which finished midway through the first COVID lockdown. I got back into it then and have not looked back since.

What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?

People, the answer is the same for both graffiti and street art. You meet some of the best people and some of the worst when doing graffiti.

I’m into it! Although photo and video sharing have now become a core part of the culture, you rarely get the opportunity to share more than that.

Do you remember the first piece?
La primera obra que recuerdo era una vieja pieza azul y morada con unas flechas y conexiones bastante cuestionables. La pinté en un antiguo conjunto de edificios que daban a una línea de tren que llevaba a la ciudad. Recuerdo que al día siguiente fui en tren a la ciudad expresamente para verla.
My first piece I can remember was an old blue and purple piece with some pretty questionable arrows and connections in it. Painted down at an old set of buildings that backed onto a train line into town. I remember riding the train into town the next day specifically to see it.
