Bolotron

My name Bolo originally came from a character that represents the street wear brand (school of the hard knocks), that brand was so famous during the 90s and early 00s ,and I was 14 years old pop locking dancer at the time and I used to wear that gear with the character a lot that made my friends stick up the name to me , then in 2008 I moved to Graffiti and took that name with me. Then since I’m growing this name was growing with me and leveled up from Bolo to BoloMann to Bolograff to Bolotron which is my current name because I draw and design robots and and sci-fi stuff.

Mi nombre, Bolo, proviene originalmente de un personaje que representa a la marca de ropa urbana (School of the Hard Knocks), muy famosa durante los años 90 y principios de los 2000. En aquella época, yo tenía 14 años y era bailarín de pop locking, y solía llevar mucha ropa de esa marca con ese personaje, por lo que mis amigos me pusieron ese nombre. Luego, en 2008, me pasé al graffiti y me llevé ese nombre conmigo. A medida que fui creciendo, este nombre creció conmigo y pasó de Bolo a BoloMann, luego a Bolograff y finalmente a Bolotron, que es mi nombre actual, porque dibujo y diseño robots y cosas de ciencia ficción.

 

 

¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?

What motivated you to get started painting?

De niño, solía dibujar mucho en el colegio, pero cuando tenía 14 años me aficioné al break dance y por eso solía ver muchos graffitis para la batalla del año, círculos tribales, marcas de hip hop y portadas de mixtapes, etc. Me maravillaba lo que veía y, aunque parezca increíble, en Arabia Saudí teníamos una escena de break dance y baile urbano muy fuerte, especialmente en Yeda y La Meca (región occidental). Para resumir la historia, lo que me motivó fue Bomfunk MC’s, un videojuego de Dreamcast Jet Set Radio que trataba sobre el graffiti y al que pasé años jugando antes incluso de probar una sola lata, y también las películas clásicas de hip hop como Style Wars, Wild Style y Breakin. Es curioso que mi difunto padre las guardara en VHS. Pero años más tarde, impulsado por la pasión y la emoción, decidí lanzarme al mundo del graffiti, pero no encontré a nadie en mi ciudad natal, La Meca, a quien seguir, ni grupos, ni nadie, excepto algunos grafiteros aleatorios aquí y allá, así que me convertí en el primero y fundador de la escena del arte del graffiti en La Meca, e hice que mi ciudad supiera lo que es el graffiti y allané el camino para todos los escritores que vinieron después de mí. Estoy muy orgulloso, pero aún queda un largo camino por recorrer.

I used to draw a lot in my early years as a kid at school , but first when I was 14 I was so into breakin and for that I used to watch a lot of graffitis for battle of the year , tribal circles, hip hop brands and mixtapes covers etc… and I was so wondered of what I witnessed, and believe it or not we had really strong breakin and street dance scene in Saudi Arabia specially in Jeddah and Mecca (western region), to make the story shorter,, what motivated me were Bomfunk mc’s – a video game on Dreamcast Jet set radio which was about graffiti and I spent years playing it before even trying a single can , and also the classic hip hop movies such as style wars , wild style and breakin , funny my late father saved them on VHS . But years later and followed by passion and excitement I decided to jump on the scene of graffiti but I found no one in my original city Mecca to follow no crews no body except some random taggers here and there , so for that I became the first and the founder of the graffiti art scene in Mecca , and made my city know what graffiti is and paved the way for all the writers who came after me. I’m so proud, but still there is a long way to go.

 

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del graffiti y lo que menos?

What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?

El graffiti me salvó la vida en muchos sentidos, tanto emocional como económicamente. El graffiti ofrece oportunidades y abre las puertas a cosas nuevas, desde pintar en la calle hasta exponer en galerías o dedicarse al mundo comercial, y permite expandirse artísticamente para convertirse en experto en diseño de interiores, guionista de cómics o diseñador gráfico. Todo eso puede suceder si decides subir de nivel y el graffiti realmente te sigue. Además, es tan único que no requiere reglas académicas, es pura libertad y pura visión. Lo que menos me gusta es cuando terminas el trabajo y tienes que limpiarte las manos y recoger las latas y las boquillas, jaja.

Graffiti saved my life in many ways emotionally and financially, graffiti gives opportunities and open gates for aloof stuff , from rolling raw to join galleries to going commercial, and can expands artistically further to become an interior designing expert or a comic book writer or a graphic designer, all that can be happens if you choose to level up and graffiti can really follow, also it’s so unique that there are no academic rules required, pure freedom and pure vision. The least I like about it is when finishing work and you have to clean you hands and collecting the cans and the caps haha.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?

Do you remember the first piece?

Creo que fue a finales de 2007, en un parque, donde pinté una obra completa que contenía un personaje y una inscripción que representaba los cuatro elementos del hip hop. Era una obra dedicada a los miembros de mi grupo de hip hop, WSS, ya que me convertí en el primer writer del grupo y de mi ciudad. Después de eso, empecé a quemarme en un viaje sin parar para ganarme el respeto de las calles y también del mundo comercial, ya que solía ir en ambos sentidos, artísticamente y en bruto. Y me encanta ir a por todas en mi juego, puedo ser un tagger, un burner y un muralista.

Siempre me ha gustado crear nuevos estilos y nuevas formas de hacer las cosas de la mejor manera posible. Me encanta el arte como artista y me encanta el graffiti porque es el alma real del arte, siendo una expresión totalmente libre. Más tarde desarrollé mi estilo de escritura para que coincidiera con mi vibración y mi bagaje cultural como afroárabe y lo mezclé con mi amor por los robots, por lo que creé el primer alfabeto árabe robótico. El sentimiento nunca cambia, siempre permanece ahí como mi primer salto. Aunque haya ganado mucha experiencia.

I believe it was in late 2007 it was at a park which where I painted a full piece that contained a character and a writing that represents the four elements of hip hop, it was a dedication piece for my hip hop crew members of WSS since I became the first writer in the crew and in my city. After that I started to burn on a non stop journey getting the respect from the streets and also the commercial because I used to go both ways artistically and raw . And I love going full book in my game, I can be a tagger, burner and a muralist.

I always love to does over new styles and new ways to get my shit done in the best way possible. I love art as an artist and I love graffiti because is the real soul of art being a total free expressionist. I Later developed my writing style to match with my vibe and cultural background as an Afro/ Arab and mix it together with my love for robots , so for that I created the first robotic Arabic alphabet. The feeling never changes it’s always remain there as my first jump . Even though I gained a lot of experience.
