Where does your pseudonym come from?
Escribí durante mucho tiempo Peora y siempre escribí también un montón de nombres secundarios. Llegó un momento en que sentí el impulso de cambiar de letras y acabé haciendo un par de piezas con el nombre de beast… luego seguí. He desarrollado bastante simpatía por «the beast», alias el diablo, porque es lo que somos: pobres diablos atrapados en los engranajes de una sociedad infernal.
I wrote for a long time Peora and I always wrote a bunch of side names too. At a certain point, I felt the urge of change my letters and I ended up doing a couple of beast pieces…then I kept going. I’ve developed quite a sympathy for ‘the beast,’ aka the devil, because it’s what we are: poor devils caught in the gears of a hellish society.

¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
Crecí en la Toscana, en una pequeña ciudad bien comunicada con otras ciudades, pero aún lejos de los principales centros de graffiti, como Roma o Milán. Era un adolescente normal y corriente, sin idea alguna, siempre en busca de diversión… chicas y alcohol, amigos estúpidos y un poco de aventura. Mi interés por la escritura se despertó en primer lugar por los muros de mi colegio: un edificio loco de los años 70 con una arquitectura futurista. Todo el edificio estaba lleno de piezas de la escritura italiana Gotha (élite) de principios de los 90. También había un enorme mural de phase II: ¡de alguna manera el legendario padrino del graffiti del Bronx aterrizó en el borde de la galaxia!
Resumiendo: yo también quería pasar por allí y, a pesar de no vivir en una metrópolis, la línea de tren entre Florencia, Pisa, Lucca y Livorno estaba llena de peña que lo petaba en las chapas.
I grew up in Tuscany, in a small city well connected to other cities, but still far from the main graffiti hubs, like Rome or Milan. I was an average young teenager with no clue, always looking for some fun… girls&booze, stupid friends and a bit of adventure. My interest in writing was sparked in the first place by the walls of my school: a 70’s crazy building with a futuristic architecture. The whole building was full of pieces of the italian writing Gotha (elite) of the early ‘90s. Also a Phase II huge wall was there: somehow the legendary godfather of graffiti from the Bronx landed to the edge of the galaxy!
Let’s make a long story short: all I wanted was to by right there too and, despite I wasn’t living in a metropolis, the trainline between Florence, Pisa, Lucca and Livorno were full of rolling burners.

What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?
La atmósfera, las tierras de nadie, el aroma de la noche y el sol en mi espalda durante el día. El increíble esfuerzo necesario, el desarrollo y la investigación constante, pero también la espontaneidad, la belleza de la imperfección y lo rápido que todo puede desvanecerse. No me gustan los mosquitos, las garrapatas ni los chicos de azul.
The atmosphere, the no man’s lands, the night’s scent and the sun on my back during the day. The incredible effort needed, the development and the constant research but also the spontaneity, the beauty of imperfection and how quickly it can all fade away. I don’t like mosquitos, ticks and the boys in blue.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Recuerdo que fui con mi compañero de crew Sbam en el patio de un edificio público, durante la noche. Hicimos una pieza de la crew, bastante terrible como tiene que ser. Un poco de emoción, un poco de diversión, y fue el desencadenante.
Internet todavía no existía como hoy y las informaciones sobre el mundo del graffiti eran escasas o «esporádicas». Sbam y Ausy eran mis compañeros de fechorías junto con otros pocos amigos. Me costó un poco entender las reglas básicas, pero me divertí mucho con mis amigos y tuvimos muchos sitios donde probar nuestras locas habilidades, lejos y libres de la salvaje competencia de la escena del graffiti de una gran ciudad. Por fin empezamos a entender algo cuando nos relacionamos con la generación anterior de escritores toscanos y con un bombardero de trenes italiano de primera categoría, Fra32. Aprendimos mucho de él y luego compartimos tanto en términos de investigación de estilo y aventuras que desarrollamos un estilo de equipo basado en nuestro amor por los cómics vintage, la música psychedelic-funk-punk, la literatura, el pastis (la encantadora bebida francesa) y la escena del graffiti de Nueva York de los años 70 y 80.
I remember I went with my crewmate Sbam in a public building courtyard, during the night. We did a crew piece, pretty terrible as it has too be. A bit of thrill, a bit of fun, and I was triggered.
Internet wasn’t still there as today and the information about the graffiti world were rare or “sporadic”. Sbam and Ausy were my partners in crime along with few other friends. It took me a bit to understand the basic rules but I had a lot of fun with my fellas and we had plenty of spot to try out our mad skills, far and free from the wild competition of a big city graff scene. We started to understand finally something when we linked with the previous generation of tuscan writers and with a top-notch italian train bomber, Fra32. We learned a lot from him and then we shared so much in terms of style research and adventures that we developed a crew style based on our love for vintage comics, psychedelic-funk-punk music, literature, pastis (the lovely french drink) and the NYC graff scene of the 70s and 80s.
