New Haven, Connecticut (USA)

Growing up in New Haven there was wall literally steps away from my parents house and it happened to be the corner store (corner bodega)  this is where I was introduced to graffiti by my first mentor Egon 2 and Dooley-o (BRAT) TSB crew (The Soul Brothers), and others graff writers that were local and non local. Seeing all the colors on a wall created an explosion in my mind at a young age. I wanted to be able and to create some  dope and colorful pieces just like my mentors.

Al crecer en New Haven, había una pared literalmente a unos pasos de la casa de mis padres y resultaba ser la tienda de la esquina (bodega de la esquina). Allí fue donde mi primer mentor, Egon 2, y Dooley-o (BRAT), del grupo TSB (The Soul Brothers), y otros writers locales y no locales me introdujeron en el mundo del graffiti. Ver todos esos colores en una pared provocó una explosión en mi mente a una edad temprana. Quería ser capaz de crear obras tan geniales y coloridas como las de mis mentores.

 

¿De dónde viene tu apodo?

Where does your pseudonym come from?

Cuando era joven, solía escribir diferentes nombres, desde mi apodo infantil hasta otros nombres que me parecían geniales, pero el nombre que tengo ahora me lo puso un viejo amigo del instituto cuando empezamos a escribirnos en el verano de 2005 y se me ha quedado desde entonces. Solo cambié la vocal un par de años después, pero se pronuncia igual, solo disfruto jugando con las letras.

When I was young I would write different names  from my childhood nickname to others names I thought were cool but, the name I have now came from an old high school friend , when we  started writing in the summer of  2005 and it’s stuck with me ever since then. Only I changed the vowel letter a couple years after but still pronounce the same just enjoy the play on letters. 

 

   

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del graffiti y lo que menos?

What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?

Gran pregunta. Lo que me gusta del graffiti es poder crear obras de arte increíbles, poder viajar a diferentes ciudades y pintar en ellas, conocer a nuevos escritores y ahora llamarlos amigos, y poder conectar con ellos a través del graffiti, aunque todos tengamos orígenes diferentes, pero tengamos una cosa en común: el amor por el graffiti, poder experimentar con diferentes colores e intentar ir más allá mezclando colores poco habituales, la emoción de poder ver hasta dónde puedo estirar/romper mis letras sin perder su estructura. Lo que no me gusta del graffiti son los egos desmesurados con los que te encuentras, las intrigas y los dramas, que pueden llegar a ser muy molestos.

Great question what I like about graffiti is being able to just create dope pieces of art, being able to travel to different cities and paint those said cities and meet new writers and now call them friends,   and be able to connect with them through graffiti even though we all have different backgrounds but have that one thing in common the love the graffiti, being able to experiment with different colors and try to push the envelope of blending not so normal colors, the thrill of  being able to see how much i can stretch / break my letters with out losing their structure.  Now what i don’t like about graffiti is the crazy egos you run in to , the politics / drama this cant get very annoying .

Recibir un mensaje diciendo que te gusta mi obra es genial y me hace sentir muy honrado. Creo que es una forma estupenda de mostrar mi obra a todo el mundo y, sin duda, una forma estupenda de compartir mi historia.

Getting a message from you guy that you like my artwork  is pretty dope  and very humbling. I think it’s a great way to showcase my artwork to everyone around the world, and also definitely a great way to share my story.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?

Do you remember the first piece?

Recuerdo mi primera obra como si fuera ayer. Fue en un lugar que la mayoría de los lugareños conocían como Funk Yard, junto a las vías del tren, donde estaba con mi amigo Demo (mi segundo mentor), que estaba haciendo un dibujo alucinante. Yo estaba allí con mi boceto, haciendo una obra con uno de los nombres que solía escribir. Empecé a usar principalmente Krylon y algunas pinturas especiales (mtn94, molotow) para los contornos. En comparación con él, mi obra era una porquería, jajajaja, pero también sabía que tenía que dedicarle más tiempo y practicar más este arte mío. Veinte años después, todavía no domino mi arte, pero sin duda lo disfruto y, al ver fotos de cuando empecé, me doy cuenta de que es como el día y la noche, y eso me hace feliz.

I remember my first piece like it was yesterday It was in a place where most locals knew it as the Funk Yard , off  the train tracks was there with my boy Demo (second mentor) he was doing a crazy burner , here i was with my sketch doing a piece of one the names i used write i got to using mostly krylons and some fancy paint (mtn94, molotow) for outlining. Compared to him my piece was whack hahahaha but i also knew i had to put more time and practice in to this craft of mine, fast forward 20 yrs later i still haven’t master my craft but i definitely enjoy it and wow seeing pictures from when i first started to know its night and day and im happy with that.
