¿De dónde viene tu apodo?

Where does your pseudonym come from?

Mi seudónimo, Chifumi, proviene del juego piedra, papel o tijera. Las manos son el elemento central de este juego, al igual que lo son en mi trabajo. Me pareció una conexión obvia con las manos gigantes que pinto.

My pseudonym Chifumi comes from rock paper scissors. Hands are at the core of this game, just like they are in my work. It felt like an obvious connection with the giant hands I paint.

 

¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?

What motivated you to get started painting?

Siempre me ha atraído pintar manos en espacios públicos.
Las manos son un elemento común de comunicación entre culturas, especialmente cuando se viaja mucho.
Pueden expresar emociones, tradiciones o incluso resistencia, y cada persona conecta con ellas a su manera.
Para mí, son una fuente infinita de inspiración.

I’ve always been drawn to painting hands in public space.
Hands are a common ground for communication across cultures, especially when you travel a lot.
They can express emotions, traditions, or even resistance, and everyone connects to them in their own way.
For me, it’s an infinite source of inspiration.

Creo que es fantástico formar parte de este tipo de proyectos. Se nota que están impulsados por la pasión, y eso es lo que realmente mantiene viva esta cultura. Últimamente he estado viajando casi sin parar, y por fin me he tomado el tiempo para responder. Mi mensaje es sencillo: gracias.

I think it’s really great to be part of this kind of project. You can feel it’s driven by passion, and that’s what truly keeps this culture alive. I’ve been traveling almost non stop lately, and I’m finally taking the time to reply. My message is simple: thank you.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?

Do you remember the first piece?

Sí, lo recuerdo muy bien.
Y, sinceramente, creo que era un «graffiti». Lo pongo entre comillas porque hoy en día casi me avergüenza el resultado.
Más tarde, ingresé en la escuela de arte, y allí fue donde empecé a explorar las formas y los colores de una manera más concreta, pero sobre todo los signos y los símbolos.
Para mí, mi primera obra real fue el momento en que comprendí el impacto simbólico de mi acción como artista urbano.
Antes de eso, seguía más bien una corriente en lugar de expresar algo personal.

Oh yes, I remember it very well.
And honestly, I think it was a “graffiti”. I put it in quotes because I’m almost embarrassed by the result today.
Later on, I entered art school, and that’s where I started to explore forms and colors in a more concrete way, but above all signs and symbols.
For me, my first real piece was the moment I understood the symbolic impact of my action as an urban artist.
Before that, I was mostly following a movement rather than expressing something personal.
