¿De dónde viene tu apodo?

Where does your pseudonym come from?

Soy de Houston, Texas. En Houston tenemos un famoso dúo de hip hop (de Port Arthur, Texas) llamado UGK. Ellos acuñaron la palabra TRILL, que es la combinación de las palabras «Too» y «Real». Al crecer en Houston, se oía mucho, está en nuestro arte, en nuestra música, en nuestros deportes, en todo ahora. Tenía una empresa de marketing musical y decidí llamarla TRILLVO. Tuvo éxito durante un tiempo y la gente empezó a llamarme RayTrill, lo que inevitablemente llevó a que «TRILL» fuera el nombre que elegí para pintar.

I’m from Houston, Texas. In Houston, we have a famous hip hop duo (from port Arthur TX) called UGK. They coined the word TRILL which is the combination of the words “Too” & “Real”. Growing up in Houston you heard this a lot, it’s in our art, in our music, in our sports, in everything now. I used to own a music marketing company and I decided to call it TRILLVO, it was successful for a while and people started calling me RayTrill which inevitably let to “TRILL” being the name I chose to write.

What motivated you to get started painting?

Siempre he sido una persona creativa y he hecho arte aquí y allá, pero nunca pensé que fuera algo que pudiera hacer en serio. Durante la pandemia me despidieron del trabajo y empecé a pintar como una forma de desahogarme y, para mi sorpresa, empecé a vender cuadros. Cuando me mudé a Dallas en 2018, un amigo me llevó al Fabrication Yard, que es un patio legal aquí, y la primera vez que pinté con spray lo supe. A partir de entonces, fui allí al menos tres días a la semana hasta que mejoré. Sigo sintiendo la misma emoción cada vez que voy a pintar y la misma sensación de satisfacción después. No creo que vaya a perder nunca la motivación. Ahora solo estoy explorando más y más formas de crecer.

I was a creative thinker my whole life and made art here and there but never did I think it was something I could do seriously. During COVID I was laid off from my job and I just started painting as an outlet and to my surprise I was selling paintings. When I moved to dallas in 2018 a friend took me to the Fabrication Yard, which is a legal yard out here and the first time I sprayed I just knew. I was there 3 days a week after that, minimum, until I got good. I still get the same rush every time before I paint and the same accomplished feeling after. I don’t think I’ll ever lose the motivation. Now im just exploring more and more ways to grow.

What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?

Me gusta todo el proceso de pintar, de principio a fin. Cada pared aporta algo nuevo. Si hablamos solo del graffiti, me gusta que las posibilidades sean ilimitadas a la hora de escribir tu propio nombre, las posibilidades creativas son realmente infinitas. Lo que menos me gusta es la política y los egos.

I like the entire process of painting, from start to finish. Each wall brings something new. If we’re just talking about graffiti I like how the possibilities are limitless for how you can write your own name, the creative possibilities truly are endless. I like the least politics and egos.

Sí, era una mierda, jajaja.

He cambiado mi estilo al 100 %. Pero siento que sigo explorando constantemente nuevos estilos, me queda un largo camino por recorrer y espero no sentir nunca que no tengo más que aprender. Creo que parte de la diversión es sentir que soy una persona desastre, que hoy aprenderé y mejoraré.

I have 100% changed my style. But I feel like im still constantly exploring new styles, I have a long way to go and hopefully never feel like I don’t have more to learn, I feel like part of the fun of it is being like I suck, today ill learn and get better.
