¿De dónde viene tu apodo?

Where does your pseudonym come from?

Empecé a finales de los 90 con el tagging y luego pasé al graffiti. En ese momento, elegí el nombre Tempo, en referencia a la temporalidad y la noción del tiempo.

Después de un paréntesis de casi seis años, cuando volví a pintar, quería mantener esa conexión con mi pasado y, al mismo tiempo, marcar un punto de inflexión, el comienzo de un nuevo capítulo.

Me liberé de las reglas y fusioné mi firma original con el nombre de mi grupo, NOK. Lo que da: Tempo + NOK = Temponok.

I started in the late 90s with tagging, then moved on to graffiti. At the time, I chose the name Tempo, referring to temporality and the notion of time.

After taking a break for almost six years, when I came back to painting, I wanted to keep that connection to my past while also marking a turning point, the beginning of a new chapter.

I broke free from the rules and merged my original blaze with the name of my crew, NOK. Which gives: Tempo + NOK = Temponok

What motivated you to get started painting?

Crecí en un barrio que, en los años 90, estaba cubierto de murales de los artistas Créator (RIP) y Rman. De niño, solía pasar horas observando y analizando su trabajo. Me fascinaba su capacidad para crear obras tan técnicas utilizando únicamente botes de spray.

Más tarde, ya adolescente, tuve la oportunidad de probarlo yo mismo cuando acompañé a un amigo, Onsept, que iba a pintar junto a las vías del tren.

I grew up in a neighborhood that, in the 90s, was covered with murals by the artists Créator (RIP) and Rman. As a kid, I used to spend hours observing and analyzing their work. I was fascinated by their ability to create such technical pieces using only spray cans.

Later, as a teenager, I had the opportunity to try it myself when I accompanied a friend, Onsept, who was going to paint along the railway tracks.

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del arte urbano y lo que menos?

What do you like most about street art and what do you like least?

Lo que más me gusta son los encuentros humanos, la adrenalina, las aventuras… y hoy, los recuerdos.

El graffiti es toda una experiencia. Incluso las partes que menos te gustan forman parte de ella. Todo está conectado; todo da forma al viaje.

What I love most are the human encounters, the adrenaline, the adventures — and today, the memories.

Graffiti is a whole experience. Even the parts you like the least are part of it. Everything is connected; everything shapes the journey.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?

Do you remember the first piece?

Sí, muy claramente.

Fue junto a las vías del tren, al final de un andén, en una noche de invierno, junto a un desguace.

Primero pinté la máscara de la película El grito a lo largo de toda la altura de la pared. Unos días más tarde, volví para revivir esa misma emoción y añadí mi primer graffiti, que en ese momento era Luzy.

Toda la obra estaba realizada en cromo y negro. Por aquel entonces, estaba totalmente inmerso en los códigos puros del graffiti vandálico.

Hoy en día, ya no tengo esa mentalidad original. He conservado del graffiti el uso de la pintura en spray y la repetición de mi firma, pero el contexto ha cambiado. La pintura se ha convertido para mí en una forma de viajar y abrirme al mundo.

Mi estilo también ha evolucionado por completo. Al principio, imitaba a los artistas que admiraba. Hoy en día, he desarrollado un estilo propio, una firma gráfica basada en la transparencia, la iridiscencia y una tipografía que se impone en mis composiciones.

En mis inicios, lo que más sentía era emoción y urgencia. Hoy en día, cuando pinto, sigo teniendo energía, pero también más control, reflexión y profundidad.

It was along the railway tracks, at the end of a train platform, on a winter night, next to a scrapyard.

I first painted the Scream movie mask across the entire height of the wall. A few days later, I went back to relive that same rush and added my first blaze, which at the time was Luzy.

The whole piece was done in chrome and black. Back then, I was fully immersed in the pure codes of vandal graffiti.

Today, I’m no longer in that original mindset. I’ve kept from graffiti the use of spray paint and the repetition of my blaze, but the context has changed. Painting has become a way for me to travel and open myself to the world.

My style has completely evolved as well. In the beginning, I was imitating the artists I admired. Today, I’ve developed a style of my own — a graphic signature built around transparency, iridescence, and a typography that asserts itself within my compositions.

In my early days, what I felt most was excitement and urgency. Today, when I paint, there’s still energy — but also more control, reflection, and depth.
