¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?

What motivated you to get started painting?

Mi andadura en el mundo del graffiti comenzó en mi infancia. Todo empezó en 2006, cuando mi hermano mayor descubrió el legendario videojuego «Marc Ecko’s Getting Up». En realidad, mi hermano ya había hecho algunas pequeñas pintadas por ahí allá por 2004-2005, pero yo entonces no sabía mucho sobre esa cultura. El juego amplió mi perspectiva y, al poco tiempo, elegí un nombre y empecé a dejar mi huella en todas las paredes de mi barrio. Con el tiempo, esta pasión tomó un giro académico. Estudiar Bellas Artes marcó significativamente mi carrera. Actualmente estoy terminando mi máster y mi tesis se centra en el «uso de la escritura y la tipografía» en el arte.

My journey with graffiti began in my childhood. Everything started in 2006 when my older brother discovered the legendary game «Marc Ecko’s Getting Up.» Actually, my brother had already been doing small bits around 2004-2005, but I didn’t have much knowledge about the culture back then. The game expanded my vision, and I soon chose a name and began leaving marks on every wall in my neighborhood. Over time, this passion took an academic turn. Studying Fine Arts significantly shaped my career. I am currently completing my Master’s degree, and my thesis focuses on the «use of writing/typography» in art.

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del graffiti y lo que menos?

What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?

Lo que más me fascina del graffiti es el acto de dejar una huella en la ciudad. Es una lucha por la existencia y una forma de decir: «Estoy aquí». Cuando dejo una firma o una marca, puede parecer insignificante para los demás, pero para mí se convierte en un punto de referencia donde plasmo mi historia. Además, el auténtico sentido de comunidad y de compartir que hay en esta subcultura me llena de alegría.

En cuanto a lo que menos me gusta, mi perspectiva ha cambiado con la edad. A medida que mi interés por la estética ha ido creciendo, he empezado a sentir que ciertas aplicaciones improvisadas o al azar en zonas concretas pueden resultar en contaminación visual en lugar de arte.

What fascinates me most about graffiti is the act of leaving a trace on the city. It is a struggle for existence and a way of saying, «I am here.» When I leave a tag or a mark, it might seem insignificant to others, but for me, it becomes a memory point where I record my history. Furthermore, the genuine sense of community and sharing within this subculture brings me great joy.

As for what I like the least, my perspective has shifted as I’ve aged. As my aesthetic concerns grew, I began to feel that certain unplanned or haphazard applications in specific areas can result in visual pollution rather than art.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?

Do you remember the first piece?

Aunque me cuesta precisar cuál fue mi primera obra, los recuerdos de aquella época siguen muy vivos. Mi hermano y yo solíamos ahorrar nuestro dinero de bolsillo y caminar kilómetros solo para comprar un simple bote de spray. A veces ni siquiera podíamos comprar nada, pero el mero hecho de empaparnos del ambiente de aquel entorno bastaba para hacernos felices. Nuestro primer «estudio» fue el jardín de nuestro piso en el sótano. Ahorrábamos durante un mes, comprábamos una o dos latas e intentábamos crear algo en ese patio trasero.

En aquel entonces, lo hacía por la pura emoción y el juego que me proporcionaba. Hoy en día, soy plenamente consciente de lo que hago y por qué lo hago. Mi estilo ha evolucionado a medida que he crecido. Creo que existo mientras produzco; por lo tanto, continúo mi carrera con un hambre de conocimiento, sintiendo que todavía estoy al comienzo de un largo viaje.

While it’s difficult to pinpoint my very first piece, the feelings of that era are still very vivid. My brother and I used to save our pocket money and walk for miles just to buy a single spray cap. Sometimes we couldn’t even buy anything, but just breathing in the atmosphere of that environment was enough to make us happy. Our first «studio» was the garden of our basement apartment. We would save up for a month, buy one or two cans, and try to produce something in that backyard.

Back then, I did it for the pure thrill and playfulness of it. Today, I am fully aware of what I do and why I do it. My style has evolved as I have grown. I believe that I exist as long as I produce; therefore, I continue my career with a hunger for knowledge, feeling like I’m still at the beginning of a long journey.
