¿De dónde viene tu apodo?

Where does your pseudonym come from?

Es por que de joven algunos amigos me llamaban Mike o Mickey, cuando inicie en el graffiti que fue en el año de 1994 buscaba un tag y se me ocurrió cortar y fusionar esos nombres como me llamaban y de ahí surgió MICK, a partir de ahí  inicie con ese TAG en el graffiti.

It’s because when I was younger, some friends called me Mike or Mickey. When I started doing graffiti in 1994, I was looking for a tag, and it occurred to me to combine those names the ones they called me and that’s how MICK came about. From then on, I started using that tag in my graffiti.

¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?

What motivated you to get started painting?

Un amigo de la secundaria me indujo al pintar ya que a el lo veía dibujar y me llamo la atención ya que el realizaba lettering con dibujos y también empecé a ver graffitis en los 90´s de RISK y TOTA  a ellos los tome como referencia para iniciar a pintar y viendo graffiti en las calles ,revistas, videos y practicando en el patio de mi casa.

A friend from high school got me into painting; I used to watch him draw, and it caught my attention because he did lettering with illustrations. I also started seeing graffiti by RISK and TOTA in the ’90s, and I used them as inspiration to start painting myself. I’d look at graffiti on the streets, in magazines, and in videos, and practice in my backyard.

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del arte urbano y lo que menos?

What do you like most about street art and what do you like least?

Lo que me gusta del arte urbano es todas la oportunidades y puertas que se abren, de viajar, conocer a diferentes artistas interactuar con ellos y platicar sobre tu experiencia en el arte urbano, sobre nuevos eventos o proyectos.

Lo que menos me gusta es que es muy celoso y que hay egos con algunos artistas  del arte urbano , ya que muchos no comparten sus métodos o sus experiencias en esa parte son algo cerrados o envidiosos,  a mi me toco aprender  por mi cuenta  e investigar  con algunos artistas y aparte  no era muy aceptado con las nuevas generaciones.

What I like about urban art is all the opportunities and doors it opens—traveling, meeting different artists, interacting with them, and talking about your experiences in urban art, as well as new events or projects.

What I like least is that it’s very competitive and that there are egos among some urban artists, since many don’t share their methods or experiences—in that regard, they’re somewhat closed off or envious. I had to learn on my own and research with some artists, and besides, I wasn’t very accepted by the younger generations.

What do you think about the idea of us publishing your artworks on our web “elrincondelasboquillas.com”?

Para mi es un honor que un espacio como Rincon de las boquillas me considere para compartir mi perfil y que ayude a interactuar con otros artistas, es una gran oportunidad un buen espacio para presentarme que conozcan un poco de mi así como conocer a los demás artistas  y ojalá algún día poder colaborar con algunos de ellos en algún futuro no muy lejano.

It’s an honor for me that a platform like Rincon de las Boquillas has chosen me to share my profile and help me connect with other artists. It’s a great opportunity and a wonderful platform to introduce myself, so people can get to know me a little better, as well as learn about the other artists—and hopefully, one day, I’ll be able to collaborate with some of them in the not-too-distant future.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?

Do you remember the first piece?

Si lo recuerdo fue en un evento de mi localidad en el 2019 realice una pieza de Quetzalcóatl en caricatura y colabore con un compañero colocando caligrafía como fondo. Desde esa fecha no e dejado de pintar en gran formato y mejorando en cada evento ya sea en la localidad o en cualquier otra parte del país.

If I recall correctly, it was at a local event in 2019 that I created a cartoon-style piece of Quetzalcóatl and collaborated with a colleague to add calligraphy as a background. Since then, I haven’t stopped painting large-scale works, improving with every event, whether locally or elsewhere in the country.

And finally, anything you want to say?

Creo que con esta invitación por parte de el Rincon Boquillas me siento feliz porque me he dado cuenta de la evolución de mi trabajo y que me consideren para participar eso me indica que  vamos por un buen camino  y es que esto es parte de todo el esfuerzo que he logrado durante estos años, El arte urbano me ha ayudado mucho en interactuar con bastante gente por toda parte del mundo, aprender de ellos y compartir de lo mío ya sea con artistas o con las nuevas generaciones.

Solo me queda agradecer a el Rincon Boquillas por la oportunidad y que me hayan considerado para compartir mi trabajo. Muchas gracias y Saludos a Todos … y que el graffiti es un deporte practíquenlo banda.

I think this invitation from El Rincon Boquillas makes me happy because I’ve realized how my work has evolved, and the fact that they’ve considered me for this opportunity shows me that we’re on the right track—and that’s all part of the hard work I’ve put in over the years. Urban art has helped me a lot in interacting with people from all over the world, learning from them, and sharing my work—whether with other artists or with the younger generations.
