Where does your pseudonym come from?

Mi nombre proviene de jugar con la firma de mi amigo… Made – MIx Artists.
Cambié las letras hasta que me gustó cómo quedaba. Obviamente, lo escribí hasta que me sentí cómodo con el tag. También me gusta el acrónimo… KADE – Kill Annihilate Destroy Everything (Matar, aniquilar, destruir todo)…

My name comes from me playing around with my friend’s tag…Made – MIx Artists. Changing letters around until I liked the fit. Obviously writing it until I get comfortable with it. I also like the acronym…KADE – Kill Annihilate Destroy Everything…

¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?

What motivated you to get started painting?

Lo que me motivó a pintar fue ver las primeras imágenes de Nueva York en la televisión, en vídeos musicales y en películas a principios de los años 80. Eso, y ver ejemplos de graffitis pintados por los primeros escritores de Sídney y preguntarme cómo se hacía eso cuando tenía 14 años. Me dejó alucinado.

What motivated me to paint was seeing early images of NYC on TV and in music videos and film in the early 1980’s That, and seeing examples of graffiti painted by early Sydney writers and wondering how that was being done as a 14 year old. Blew my mind.

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del graffiti y lo que menos?

What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?

Me encanta la creatividad del graffiti. Es lo que siempre me motiva. Pintar y colaborar con otros artistas que me elevan y me inspiran.No me gustan nada las intrigas políticas y la negatividad que se cuelan en el mundillo… Evito a los escritores negativos, no tengo tiempo para eso.

I love the creativity about graffiti. It’s always what drives me. Painting and collaborating with other artists that elevate me and give me inspiration. I dislike all the politics and negativity that creep into the scene…I give negative writers a wide berth, no time for that.

Me alegro de que publiques mis obras y las difundas, sin duda… Estoy muy lejos de ti, allí en Europa… ¡así que es algo bueno!.

I’m happy for you to publish my artwork and get it out there for sure…i’m a long way from you guys over there in Europe…so it’s a good thing!.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?

Do you remember the first piece?

Recuerdo mi primera pieza, decía «Rock» en 1984… era horrible… el estilo era muy básico… incluso utilicé pintura fluorescente… y la pintura era muy diferente a la actual… estábamos aprendiendo sobre la marcha… no había pintura específica para writers, la mayor parte era pintura esmaltada y para automóviles. Mi primera obra fue una pintada junto a las vías en Macdonaldtown, para aquellos que conocen Sídney.Fui con un chico que ya había pintado paneles y sabía lo que había que hacer… así que seguí su ejemplo. La adrenalina fluía y terminar la obra fue una sensación increíble… pasar en tren y ver tu trabajo fue algo que me enganchó… Llevo más de 40 años pintando… es parte de mi ADN.Por supuesto, mi estilo ha evolucionado con el tiempo… estudiar mucho el arte del metro de Nueva York, etc., y perfeccionar y refinar constantemente mis habilidades me han llevado a este punto de mi vida.

I remember my first piece, it said ‘Rock’ in 1984…it was terrible…the style was so basic…I even used fluro paint…and paint was very different to nowadays…we were working it all out…there wasn’t any paint made for writers, most of it was enamel and automotive paint. My first piece was a trackside painted at Macdonaldtown for those that know Sydney. I went with a guy that had already painted panels and knew what to do…so I followed the lead. The adrenaline was pumping and getting the piece done was a great feeling…cruising past on the train and seeing your work was something that got me hooked…I have been painting for 40 plus years now…it’s a part of my DNA. Of course my style has evolved over time…lots of studying New York, Subway Art etc and constantly honing and refining my skill have got me to this point in my life.
